why is it necessary to name and date each member of his family. None of them have any articles of their own. What purpose does that information serve? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.235.249.80 (talk) 17:44, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He is a person, and everything professional occurs in a personal context. David Weiser, his father, was a chemistry professor with an interest in the theory of knowledge. David Weiser introduced Mark to Michael Polanyi's work, specifically the theory of implicit knowledge, on which Mark commented that ubiquitous computing is based. It all ties together. His sister Ann Weiser Cornell is listed in Wikipedia, is living, and is a source to verify facts, etc. She confirmed with me today that Mark identified Polanyi's ideas as a foundation of his work. --Laurence R. Ubiquitous Computing Principles

[edit]

The article says Weiser gave a number of principles "during one of his talks". Those are widely cited among the internet - probably because of this article. But there is no exact source given - why? Where exactly did he say this? Is there any proof in actual published or publicly accessible material? 95.168.146.90 (talk) 09:16, 10 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Program Slicing

[edit]

Besides ubiqu. comp. his paper about Program Slicing (1981) is noteworthy and widely-cited. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.53.86.152 (talk) 16:12, 16 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What happened to objectivity?

[edit]

Ubiquitous computing - as a concept, rather than a name - has been predicted for decades by numerous scientists and countless science fiction writers. None of this man's fan club have made a case for Weiser's views to be particularly special. This reads like a speech from a memorial service, rather than an objective account. Further, the reference supporting him being "widely considered to be the father of ubiquitous computing" looks as if it is exactly that - can't be sure, as the link is broken.

Mr Weiser deserves an objective account of his achievements, not a hagiography. Heenan73 (talk) 13:05, 19 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Separate Calm Technology Article?

[edit]

A colleague and I have been working on an article draft for calm technology. Currently the "calm technology" article redirects here. We believe that there has been enough further research and development by others besides Mark Weiser since the redirect creation which would warrant a new calm technology article. Our draft can be read and/or edited here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Calm_technology

If no one objects, we would like to remove the redirect and create a separate article. HCI-tastic (talk) 20:01, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Missing Citations

[edit]

I added a number of citation missing templates. A more citations needed tag might be required, but I'm still working through finding sources. JP Miller1 (talk) 15:00, 18 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
