dispute.

The categorization of Max Wright as LGBT does not seem accurate. As far as I know he has never discussed his sexual orientation.

His partner for the last 2 years of his life was a man, so I'm pretty sure that qualifies him for the category. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.72.86.193 (talk) 01:20, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to know more about this. Some very cursory searches seem intriguing:

http://www.socialitelife.com/mt/archives/alf_star_in_crack_denhomosexual_scandal.php

Oh please, that's a scan of an old National Enquirer. It has zero credibility. Uucp 18:29, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
For some reason, a bunch of anons think it's funny to keep linking to National Enquirer rumors that he's gay. --Stlemur 20:07, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think the rumor should be addressed in the article. Most wikipedia articles in other languages do (and seem to indicate that it's true aswell). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 84.244.202.28 (talk) 21:56, August 22, 2007 (UTC)
It needs something more reliable than an over-circulated (and dubious) scan of an enquirer article. A web search seems to turn up nothing beyond that one scan- in which the date and page number are too conveniently cut off. Without a more reliable source it could be a hoax. Even if you could call the Enquirer a reliable source, you should at least cite the date and issue so we can verify it is not a hoax- this scan just doesn't cut it.JeffStickney (talk) 21:01, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here's the full article: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3289/2458097134_22251514ea_b.jpg —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.162.70.191 (talk) 02:28, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That article is from about 11 years ago. (It says he was 57, and had a role in Norm.) So I guess it's from about 2000. I find it odd that he's wearing the same glasses as in ALF! 118.90.12.186 (talk) 08:09, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Max Wright (born August 2, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan) was an American actor" Does it mean that he is not alive yet?--Soul assassin 11:20, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My thoughts on the National Enquirer article have evolved. On April 10, 2001, the Enquirer ran a multi-page photo spread called "Alf Star Caught in Crack House," of Wright smoking crack from a beer can and making out with another man. While Wright never, to the best of my knowledge, addressed the accusations. I think the accusations (with an appropriate footnote), are reasonable to include here so long as they are clearly labeled as speculative. Uucp (talk) 14:32, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Dead?[edit]

I just heard on an imdb message board that he just died of a coccain overdose, but I can't find any other mention of it anywhere.24.29.74.132 17:50, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Still alive according to [1]. --Stlemur 20:41, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He’s dead 2001:8003:D548:B200:9D33:ADB8:A5A3:3E8 (talk) 21:14, 30 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Married and with Lymphoma? =[edit]

90% of this article does not have credibility. Mr. Wright has a resctric social and gay life. He is still an actor. Playing theatre in UK. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jean Pier-UK (talkcontribs) 04:15, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Max Wright is married. He is not gay. He is also not dead. He is currently in a play.

Housewatcher (talk) 01:15, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That he is married doesn't mean he isn't gay. In 2001 he was cought smoking crack and having gay sex on a video. I wonder why this is missing in this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.114.62.73 (talk) 11:04, 23 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry but he was definitely gay. Here’s a picture with him and his German lover: https://de.linkedin.com/in/reiner-dettling-aa98bba7 Urgeback (talk) 21:57, 24 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

White-washing history[edit]

I know people here love to hide the truth, but we really need to comment about the crack smoking, gay sex with homeless people reference. Apart from ALF, that's where people remember Max from. 118.90.50.22 (talk) 02:22, 12 January 2013 (UTC) I guess they won't be happy until they find him dead from a coke binge with male hookers. If they would at least print the truth here, maybe Benji Gregory would come to help him, or maybe that girl that was on Uncle Buck.[reply]

They interviewed one of the tricks that he was having interracial gay sex with, and he confirmed the story. That interview should be substantial enough to put the truth on the front page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.102.108.156 (talk) 03:32, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Here is no white washing, Wikipedia is just no place for such stupid and dangerous gossip news. First if I look at the pictures which are made of "Max Wright" doing such stuff the person does not look like Max Wright, only similar to him. And if you come with gossip newspapers to prrof your story I have here another one which clearly states that this was not Max Wright (only on german but good enough) Not Max Wright. So people stop writing this gossip nonsense into the Wikipedia and start workling on an encyclopedia. Regards Seader (talk) 01:16, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

and he confirmed the story.

I didn't find any links or other sources to support your claim. Tangamandapiou (talk) 18:18, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Whether these things happened or not (and I tend to believe they did), the scandal is literally the thing he is most known for outside of Alf. To make absolutely no mention of it is absolutely whitewashing. 108.70.12.24 (talk) 23:17, 28 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Main sources for that news are porn blogs and The National Enquirer (that tabloid that informs about how the Earth is flat in reality, and how aliens from Space visit planet Earth on a regular basis. Tangamandapiou (talk) 18:15, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Crack cocaine incident[edit]

Attempted to include this in the personal life section as tastefully as possible, though I admit the Daily Mail is not a great source, it's reporting on the original controversy years later. Any suggestions for improving this section are welcome. --CaptainNtheGameMaster (talk) 09:29, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, CaptainNtheGameMaster. I explained why I reverted you. I don't see what I can state that WP:BLP does not make clear. The edit you made is not at all appropriate. If you want to continue discussion about this, ask at the WP:BLP noticeboard. On a side note: Since this article is on my watchlist, there is no need to ping me to it. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 11:41, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No it doesn't actually explain anything (and WP:BLP is pretty long page) which is why I asked you to clarify. Is the problem the source? The crack incident is a bit of tough one to wrangle due to it having happened before the social media age and it coinciding with Wright's drop from the public eye. Google search only brings up old gossip sites and Reddit discussions. Daily Mail is at least a publication, not a great one but it's a newspaper (of sorts). --CaptainNtheGameMaster (talk) 11:46, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I see that others have answered you at the BLP noticeboard. The issue is not only the sourcing, but WP:Due weight and the way you worded it. Flyer22 Reborn (talk) 07:40, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I see the problem of adding it because sourcing on it is not the best possible. As can be seen above, people have asked about this in the past (not in the most kindest way possible). That's why I tried to be tactful. I don't think I assigned any unnecessary weight, it was literally just two sentences (granted that's a big percentage on a bio this dinky) but I tried suggesting an FAQ or something else to note that a.) yes, Wikipedia acknowledges it's a thing that happened but b.) it can't go in the article because the sources are on Wikipedia's no-go list. I also realise, this isn't exactly a burning issue; I doubt Wright's planning to make a comeback into acting in the near future; so if there's no obvious solution, I'm not going to lose sleep over it. I'm more thinking that this is an issue which is likely to be brought up on the discussion page in the future. So if there's some easy way of addressing it that complies to the Wikipedia rulebook I'd be open to adding it.

I myself only heard about this issue recently, was curious so checked Wikipedia, didn't find anything and then became curious asto why there wasn't anything here. --CaptainNtheGameMaster (talk) 17:41, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

More on the incident[edit]

An editor has recently repeatedly added material on the above-discussed incident, but is relying on a source that has previously been deemed unreliable (Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard/Archive_281#Omigosh,_are_Cheatsheet.com_and_WeGotThisCovered.com_reliable?. I ask that the material not be readded until a reliable source has been found. -- Nat Gertler (talk) 22:16, 1 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
