Early Settlement Prior to 1880

[edit]

I am working to retrieve/amend the birth and death dates for these mentioned individuals as well as verifying the information on Catherine Shell. I plan to add these to "Noted Personalities" when found. Also, there are 3 eligible "John Nuttles" buried in Bowers Cemetery, all around the same age. Please assist with all this, if you can.Rmharris (talk) 15:35, 19 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

As local "Notable Personalities" were removed, this comment is no longer applicable. Rmharris (talk) 18:57, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A Roving Township School #8

[edit]

Depending on the plat map observed, "District School No. 8" is sometimes depicted on Gar Creek Rd. and sometimes on Bremer Road. Perhaps it was moved at some point in time, or perhaps there are map errors involved. There are newspaper references to a district school lost to fire and rebuilt, but which school this is referring to remains a mystery. Rmharris (talk) 21:42, 3 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

District School Topics for Further Research

[edit]

Locals remember a schoolhouse at Ricker Rd. and Doty Rd. Whether this was a district school, and which number, remains to be verified.

Local legend suggests that a schoolmaster hanged himself in one of the district schools, but that is yet to be corroborated via an archived newspaper article. Might that have been why #12 was rebuilt? Rmharris (talk) 21:14, 9 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
