Nomenclature of Mononykus[edit]

Mononykus was originally named Mononychus in 1993, but later that year, the name was changed to Mononykus because Mononychus had already been used for a beetle named by Johann Schueppel, a German entomologist.

Mononychus presently redirects here. It shouldn't. Dysmorodrepanis 04:11, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Similarity to moles[edit]

Isn't the mole comparison an outdated idea from the early 90s? That quote from Storrs Olson appears very much outdated. It is from 12 years ago. Firsfron of Ronchester 07:40, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Missing Link[edit]

Mononykus was at first thought to be a link between birds and dinosaurs. It was even featured on the cover of TIME Magazine in 1993 http://www.time.com/time/covers/0,16641,19930426,00.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:2594:6749:CBB:2271:F6C5:6050 (talk) 03:03, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The operation of Template:Speciesbox is being changed to automatically show an extra taxon when the {{PAGENAME}} is a genus, as with Mononykus also showing the branch name "Mononykini" (see example Speciesbox at right).

The extra taxon will be listed when a {Speciesbox} is placed on any page where the wiki-variable {{PAGENAME}} is the name of any genus, such as on this page (Talk:Mononykus) or even a project page named "WP:Mononykus" or placing the Mononykus {Speciesbox} inside the article of any other genus, such as in article "Acacia" where the PAGENAME "Acacia" has the rank as a plant genus. -Wikid77 (talk) 12:41, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent change, thank you! It was extremely time consuming to add immediate parent taxa to literally every article via always_display or display_parents, when for ease of navigation alone this should obviously be the default behavior. MMartyniuk (talk) 18:47, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
