Name

[edit]

This man was named Narciso Monturiol, and not Narcís, as can be checked in his own book "Memoria sobre la navegación submarina" (Memoir on submarine sailing); his signature is transcribed there at the end of a letter, for example.( http://books.google.es/books?id=VSSUs37w3zYC&pg=PA6#v=onepage&q&f=false ) But there are many other independent sources in which you can check it; I leave them as references beside the name.

This is another vandalized article on the part of the Catalan separatists in the English wikipedia. It´s not an exception, nor is it by chance. They value it a lot as a conveyor for their version of history, which is not backed by any conventional enciclopedias around the world, (except, may be, by some very modern Catalan ones). So they try to push on their propaganda here (they call this "internationalize their identity").

By the way, I can´t change the name of the article, if anyone knows how and wants to, it would be great. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.144.117.125 (talk) 17:13, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

don't worry about the name. You can be 100% sure his friends and family called him Narcís. The fact Spanish was imposed on Catalonia, and law didn't permit to register catalan names, doesn't change that, so, please don't try to do spanish propaganda. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.5.161.135 (talk) 09:17, 5 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Would anybody mind if I cleaned up the translation a bit? BenBurch 16:25, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Name of the submarins

[edit]

Hi folks, I just added a pictures of the Ictíneo I submarine and saw that you are using two different names for the submarines in this article: Ictineu and Ictíneu – however, according to the wellknown Enciclopèdia Catalana the right name is Ictíneo.

I would also propose to turn the two submarins into articles of their own, since they are important inventions that should be categorized individually (like already done in the catalan and the german Wikipidia). Greetings --84.137.83.249 13:08, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've made articles for Ictineo I and Ictineo II, so now their descriptions in this article can be slimmed down. Salmanazar (talk) 14:16, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speculation

[edit]

The section on Ictineo I states that "It is likely she was inspired by the prototype Brandtaucher of Wilhelm Bauer, completed in 1851, as Monturiol studied all the available science of submersibles." This is pure speculation; Ictineo looks nothing like the Brandtaucher (which, incidentally, sank like a stone when tested, so was hardly a good example to follow) OTOH it looks a lot like the Villeroi submarine from 1832; make of that what you will. Either way it is just an opinion, so I have deleted it. Xyl 54 (talk) 15:43, 23 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
