Please leave alternate names in[edit]

There are a number of places on this list which have alternate names including the Free Church (Powers Church) and the Combination Shelter (CCC Shelter).

I am unsure why it is necessary just to have the primary name, rather than including alternate names, particularly the recognizable public names.

Thanks for your forebearance, Mr. Harman (talk) 05:10, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The NRIS only gives one official name, and this alone is what belongs in the "Landmark name" column. There's no reason, of course, that we must entitle our articles that way; but as this is a list of NRHP data, we must use the names the NRHP uses, except for obvious errors such as mistakes in spelling. The alternate names are also a part of the NRHP data, and so I see no reason that these official alternate names should not also be a part of this article. Why restrict the information? Certainly the photos are in no way part of the official record, and yet they appear right next to the name. Mr. Harman (talk) 02:23, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
These are not part of the official name. Consult https://secure.in.gov/apps/dnr/shaard/welcome.html, http://nrhp.focus.nps.gov, or http://www.nr.nps.gov and follow the paths to get a complete list of sites for Steuben County by their official names. There's only one official name for any property, and that's all that we give in the Landmark name column. Nyttend (talk) 03:02, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
