The scope of this article, as opposed to that of ethnic stereotype, is the purportedly real "characters" not studied as stereotypes. Of course, stereotypes are relevant to the topic, but editors should keep in mind that stereotypes (the beliefs, the archetypes, the notions) are presented in literature separately (though relatedly) to so-called national character.
