Reorg[edit]

I'm going to try to reorganize and extend this article. I'm keeping this little piece here so that I'll have it to work back in if I can make it fit, it was kind of off topic, even though it is kind of cool and random.

In an interesting note, one Neo-Futurist playwright-actor, a.k.a Ian Pierce, a.k.a John Pierson, has also worked extensively in the field of music as guitarist for the band Screeching Weasel. One bandmate in this band, bassist and producer Mass Giorgini, is the son of noted Italian artist Aldo Giorgini, and protege of Ambrogio Casati, an original Italian Futurist.

If you have any thoughts, go for them, I may not be able to consistantly edit this over the next few weeks, but figure more can be said, and can be said better, than it currently is and wanted to aim high and try to make something happen. Sirmob 19:10, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

extraneous content on architecture/urbanism[edit]

For a long time, the intro section has had a second paragraph that looks to me like it belongs in Neo-Futurism rather than here:

The Neo-Futurist architects, designers and artists believe in eco-sustainable cities cross-pollinated by arts and technology to provide a better quality of life; the definition of Neo-Futurism in art and architecture came from the reference to the United Nations’ report Our Common Future.

Whether there really is such a cross-disciplinary movement as Neo-Futurism in this sense is debatable— I see in the talk page for that article that many editors don't feel the article should exist— but I think this statement is irrelevant to the Neo-Futurists as a theater ensemble; I'm sure many of its members do believe in eco-sustainable cities etc., but that's a common modern point of view, not in any way specific to this group and not part of its stated mission.

Since a lot of other material of the same kind was previously cut out of the article, I'm kind of surprised that this paragraph has lasted so long, but I also don't see any previous discussion of it on the talk page or argument in favor of keeping it, so I'm going ahead and cutting it. ←Hob 20:32, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

do we really need such a thorough list of members?[edit]

Someone has been very diligent about maintaining the "Theater members" section, which now has 179 names. One of those names is mine and it's nice to be mentioned, but this still feels a bit odd to me— in articles for other ensembles, it seems to me that the practice is normally to list a smaller number of people who already have their own WP pages (for instance, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, which starts its list with "Notable past and present ensemble members include:"). Trying to list literally every person is arguably a Neo-Futurist approach, because they do have a non-hierarchical tendency; however, this is a Wikipedia article, not a Neo-Futurist publication, so I would think WP editorial consensus would take precedence. I'm not active enough on WP these days to be confident about that consensus, so rather than boldly cutting it, I just want to bring it up for consideration.

(And on a practical level, all four Neo-Futurist companies continue to cast new members at a fairly constant rate, so this long list will become very long if we keep this up. Or, more likely, the editor(s) who are currently keeping it up will at some point stop doing so, and then it'll become an out-of-date list that gives the misleading impression of being a complete one.) ←Hob 20:47, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
