John Dawson

[edit]

Why nothing on Dawson? He's the most kick ass member of this band, in my honest opinion. Toby. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.70.96.55 (talkcontribs) 01:59, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

Most of this article comes from one anon edit, [1], which I would bet but cannot prove is a copyvio. Wasted Time R 17:59, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever, I plan to use this article to better recognize and celebrate DAWSON, one of my favorite rock vocalists. Toby. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Enhan (talkcontribs) 16:57, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Don't, because making it into a tribute (even a tribute to somebody great) instead of an encyclopedia article will most likely get somebody to delete it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.188.116.203 (talkcontribs) 22:18, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Dawson was fantastic, its a shame he doesn't tour with them anymore. seeing him live you could see he really got into the music. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.163.100.5 (talkcontribs) 02:51, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

websites/years active/associated acts

[edit]

The information on the official website here is out of date. www.nrps.net is a historical site for the band from before the reunion. www.thenewriders.com is the current site for the reunion of the band. Both are official but in my contacts with the band they always direct me to www.thenewriders.com. Also, the band was not active from 97-2005, only playing one off reunions in 2001 and 2002. I am also adding the associated acts David Nelson Band and Donna Jean Godchaux as the DNB has shared members with NRPS and Donna Jean has played with NRPS numerous times in recent years. Should the previous bands of the newer members and Buddy Cage be added to associated acts as well? UselessToRemain (talk) 18:49, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the updates, they make sense to me, mostly. The part I'm not too sure about is the associated acts in the infobox. Before it was just the Grateful Dead, and you added David Nelson Band, Donna Jean Godchaux, and Robert Hunter. There's probably no single right answer to this question, but take a look at Template:Infobox musical artist#associated_acts, and see if you think those meet the strong level of association described there. I'm not convinced they do. Mudwater (Talk) 00:09, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the input, I actually haven't looked at the link you sent so I'll check that out in a bit. IMO Hunter should be on there because he wrote most of their last 2 albums as well as some past songs as well. I just recently added a navbox at the bottom, LMK if you have an opinion on that. Purple Prose

[edit]

This page has some pretty over-the-top word choices. I provide the following examples:

• Some (such as "Glendale Train" and "I Don't Know You") were traditional country pastiches; a number of others ("Last Lonely Eagle", "Garden of Eden", and "Dirty Business") found him working in a "psychedelic country" fusion milieu redolent of Gram Parsons' nascent Flying Burrito Brothers.

• [N]one of the albums that followed New Riders (1976) charted on the Billboard 200 in antipodal contrast to the widespread mainstream success of the outlaw country movement (exemplified by Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings) and such second-wave country rock groups as The Eagles, Pure Prairie League, and Firefall.

• ...best known for Bob Weir's membership during the Grateful Dead's 1974–1976 touring interregnum)...

These are just a few examples. The prose is a bit off-putting and contains too much author-based stylistic content. I plan to clean this up. Disagree? KcorriganM (talk) 14:37, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I see what you're saying, but I kind of like it the way it is. It's pretty-well written, though admittedly a bit flowery. I would ask that you proceed slowly and cautiously. Mudwater (Talk) 16:37, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed on proceeding cautiously. Things like "interregnum" instead of "hiatus" or, even, a "break" (referring to the Grateful Dead), are a problem. It was a hiatus. In the case of the Grateful Dead, it is generally referred to as the "hiatus." To call it an "interregnum" is silly and pretentious. KcorriganM (talk) 01:36, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
