NRPS[edit]

Greetings, UselessToRemain. Thanks for your recent work on articles related to the New Riders. "P.S." You might have noticed this already, but I posted on a discussion page section that you started, at Talk:New Riders of the Purple Sage#websites/years active/associated acts. Feel free to reply there. Mudwater (Talk) 00:08, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The NRPS navbox looks really good, I like it a lot. You could leave it the way it is, but the usual practice is to create a separate page for a navbox, in the "template space". That is, you would create a page called Template:New Riders of the Purple Sage, that has the contents of the navbox. Then you, or another editor, can easily include it at the bottom of any article just by adding this to the article: {{New Riders of the Purple Sage}}. For comparison, check out Template:Grateful Dead. (If you reply here I will see what you say.) Mudwater (Talk) 00:56, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sure thing, and if you have any questions, let me know, I might be able to help. Feel free to post back in the User talk:Mudwater#NRPS section. Or, if you post here I should see it too, since I have your user talk page on my watchlist. Mudwater (Talk) 01:09, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"P.S." In case you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend the Wikipedia:Tutorial. It's a great summary, with a lot of links to additional information. Mudwater (Talk) 01:16, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the tips, I've seen the tutorial but its a little bit much to digest all at once so I've got it in the background for reference. I updated the navbox like you said and I'll be adding it to various NRPS articles. UselessToRemain (talk) 16:06, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Good work on the navbox. And, yeah, no need to read through the entire tutorial now, as long as you know that it's there. You're doing really well. Have fun, and, like I said, feel free to let me know if you have any questions. Mudwater (Talk) 00:23, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. It looks like you took the band members section out of the NRPS navbox. Why'd you do that? I think the navbox is a lot better with the members left in.  :) Mudwater (Talk) 23:34, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You are correct, it should stay. I think I fixed it. I was working on another navbox and accidentally cut the band members. UselessToRemain (talk) 23:39, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, all better now. Thanks. Mudwater (Talk) 23:59, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GD member navboxes[edit]

Hello UTR. Nice work on creating the navboxes for the members of the Grateful Dead. They look really good.  :-) I do have a suggestion about which articles to put them on. The purpose of a navbox is to allow the readers to easily see the articles about a particular subject, and navigate between those articles with just a click or two. So I strongly recommend this rule of thumb: Each navbox should be placed on any article that it has a link to, and it should not be placed on any article that it does not have a link to. For example, the navboxes for Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, and Bill Kreutzmann do not contain links to Dick's Picks Volume 36 -- nor should they! -- and so they should not be included in that article, or in any similar articles. I admit that this guideline is not followed universally, so it's possible to find exceptions, but that's definitely what I recommend, and I believe most editors would agree with me. (If you reply here, I will see what you say.) Mudwater (Talk) 00:33, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I've gone ahead and added the Bill Kreutzmann navbox to all the articles that it links to. Mudwater (Talk) 13:20, 14 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In short, I think the individual artist navboxes should be removed from the Grateful Dead album articles. So, let's take 'em off. Feel free to reply here with any feedback on this idea. Again, thanks for creating the navboxes, I like them a lot. "P.S." I've added the Mickey Hart navbox and the Phil Lesh navbox to their respective articles. Mudwater (Talk) 13:29, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
After some research, it looks like you are correct. I was thinking it would be useful to have everyone that appeared on a recording on that page but the GD box would link to those anyway. I'll remove some of them today. UselessToRemain (talk) 17:17, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks! "P.S." I've added the Bob Weir navbox to the articles that it links to. For the Jerry Garcia navbox, some of its articles already have it and some don't, so you or I can add the rest whenever we get around to it. (I guess it's even possible that someone else will get to it first.) Mudwater (Talk) 19:53, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Gloria Jones[edit]

Hi UTR. I'm not sure if Gloria Jones, the subject of the Wikipedia article, is the same Gloria Jones who was in the Jerry Garcia Band. The article doesn't say anything about the Jerry Garcia Band, and neither does her biography on Allmusic. I'm guessing that they're two different people. I raised this question at Talk:Gloria Jones#Jerry Garcia Band?, but no one answered. I'm mentioning it now because I noticed that you included her in the Jerry Garcia Band navbox. Mudwater (Talk) 20:42, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, you may be on to something with this. For some reason I thought it was the same person but you are right that it's not on her page. I'll look into this when I have time. Maybe thejerrysite.com would have some information to confirm or deny? I can't check as I'm at work. UselessToRemain (talk) 15:30, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I've gone ahead and taken Gloria Jones out of the Jerry Garcia Band navbox. If you reply here, I will see what you say, but I suggest that further discussion about this question take place at Talk:Gloria Jones#Jerry Garcia Band?. Thanks. Mudwater (Talk) 00:00, 14 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just had to say...[edit]

Greetings, I just had to say, what a great username you picked! Sometimes I'm torn between wanting to steal yours, or that of User:Wasted Time R! But seriously, have you been editing long? If not, I'd be happy to assist you; I work on biographies of musicians, primarily rock, Alternative rock, Blues rock, Blues, Jazz fusion, Americana, Jazz, and most other forms with the exception of: Opera, Classical music, and a lot of rap and Hip-hop music, since I'm a bit older than the 20 year olds and they cover the MTV generation's music for the most part. My specialties are those of guitarists (esp. slide guitarists) and finding photographs for those articles, convincing and teaching photographers to convert to the Creative Commons licenses we accept, and uploading them to Wikimedia Commons; placing them in the Wikipedia (sometimes in several languages). Maybe we can help each other? Just a thought. Please answer me on my talk page, even if you are not interested! Thanks. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 15:39, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
