Location[edit]

I know the bus station used to be on South Street, but the majority of it now seems to be off Orchard Street - worth considering a revision here, or perhaps too insignificant a change to bother with? --Peeky44 (talk) 10:47, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually thinking about it, I agree.... I have changed it to say 'adjacent to South Street' as it says on Transportation on the Isle of Wight, although if you think it would be better as 'on Orchard Street' then thats good too, although both articles should probably say one or the other. On second thoughts and according to this website the official address is:

Southern Vectis Ltd
Newport Bus Station
Orchard Street
Newport
Isle of Wight
PO30 1JX

So have changed the location to 'on Orchard Street' and will do the same on the 'Transportation on the Isle of Wight' article as well. Editor5807talk 08:42, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Assessment[edit]

Anyone who's contributed to this article probably knows it is generally correct, but some more references need to be given before it can be given B-class status. The main issue is actually with the sections on bus lanes, particularly the Church Litten one as it states there was a bus lane (appropriately sourced), but that there isn't any more (unsourced). Most of the rest seems alright for B-class now though. --Peeky44 (talk) 23:12, 16 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Southern Vectis bus routes[edit]

I have altered the table showing Southern Vectis bus routes to reflect the new look on the List of Southern Vectis bus routes article. I have also taken out some of the unnecessary information that didnt really have any relevance to the bus station, for example for route 5 "No longer serves Red Funnel Ferry terminal in East Cowes." Personally I think it looks better but feel free to change it if you have any objections. Editor5807speak 17:47, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nice. It looks good. I think some of the irrelevant info came from the creation of the tables, where bits were just copied and pasted in. Anyway, it doesn't even mention not serving the ferry on the main routes article now! Arriva436talk/contribs 15:09, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bus route table[edit]

This article is about the bus station, not about the routes that use it. Most of these routes have their own articles or are detailed at List of Southern Vectis bus routes. The table which I have removed had only one primary source and WP:PRIMARY states that "Material based purely on primary sources should be avoided." I am substituting a linked list of services using the station which is quite sufficient.--Charles (talk) 09:59, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The shorter list seems like a reasonable compromise - it was just the complete removal of all route information that was a problem. (I added links to the separate route articles by the way.) However, I remain unconvinced by your interpretation of WP:PRIMARY, which also states that: "Unless restricted by another policy, primary sources that have been reliably published may be used in Wikipedia, but only with care, because it is easy to misuse them." The previous list doesn't seem like misuse of a primary source but a "straightforward description of fact", namely which routes serve the bus station and where else they go. To be honest, I think the table was much better than a list. What we've got now is a list of numbers, which to anyone that doesn't have a good knowledge of the area could mean anything. Whilst some of the routes do have articles, they don't all, and before it gave a quick overview of where most traffic into the bus station was coming from without having to click on each individual route article. I'll leave it as it is for now though, if that's what you think is best. Editor5807speak 19:59, 22 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, fair point. I've added a short list of some of the destinations served by the routes to put that overview-type info back without restoring all of the detail. Hopefully everyone's OK with this? Alzarian16 (talk) 21:40, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
