This reads like it was written by the organization in question. Examples "is one of the premier engineering colleges", "is one of the highest ranked private colleges in Karnataka and a very coveted engineering college". I feel these should be removed. and replaced with more generic descriptions of the university SusanLarson 20:07, 8 December 2005 (UTC)-- Required changes were made and hence the comment removed. hope this answers the question asked below, wat say?
Isnt it funny that even a discussion on the article is not permitted by the college ? (Check the history of this discussion and note the people at one particular IP address atttempting to remove entries here). How shameful.
That was me cleaning up the vandalism on this page. I didn't have a wikipedia account before and I didn't think about posting a notice here about the changes I made. Sorry about that. Munim2020 (talk) 16:34, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
vandals
[edit]hey sign ur posts goddamit! mark antek is a troll,he has been vandalising intentionally or unintentionally the PESIT page. wikipedia is not a place for advertisement or trade. So,please amke ur comments only abt the collg, dont make comments like"join at ur own risk". and i dont think resedential facilities need to be mentioned in the page.--Jayanthv86 18:55, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
The talk page is supposed to keep a history of the discussion carried out while creating the page. In case something is fixed - you add a reply to the earlier comment - not just remove it. --Sir Titus 08:01, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
i have removed some more unwanted information. the artcle looks more like a advertisement to the collg.
Funny Vandals
[edit]Is there a company called Veerappan's Gang? Or is it the work of a vandal?? Can I revert this change?
I removed this "company". Its inclusion is obviously vandalism. I am new to Wikipedia. Sorry if I am breaching any form of etiquette. -- George
Advertisement tag
[edit]The article still reads like an advertisement flyer. Citations are missing. The faculty section has horrible weasel words. I've added the appropriate tags. If a balanced opinion cannot be presented I would suggest the tags remain.
latest dataquest survey..
[edit]someone removed the post about the dataquest ranking of 2006.. even a link to the official ranking was given... i had also put up the results of the 2007 results but i couldn't find the official results on the internet. if someone finds the link, please add the dataquest 2007 rating along with the URL.
Heavy handed editing
[edit]Amarrg - please avoid heavy handed, judgmental editing. Your removal of almost all cultural activity references, rather than tagging them with {{cite}},is contrary to the way things are done on WP. If you have doubts about notability, say so on the talk page. Refrain from using terms like "adspace for budding rock-groups". In your haste, you removed a reference that has its own article on WP, and that has survived several Notability-challenges from over-eager editors. If you would like to be helpful and improve the article, search for and provide references. If you cannot find any, tag the item with {{cite}} - do not blindly remove something - someone else may be able to provide references. Achitnis (talk) 14:38, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, its a pity that instead of improving the article by providing the needed citations, you want to accuse me of "heavy handed, judgemental editing" - whatever that means. I could have added {{cite}} tags but I saw that no action has been taken on the existing tags, which essentially means that no one seems to be much bothered about the contents of the article. In which case, the best thing to do is to remove uncited ad-like material which I did. By the way, can you point out the reference you said I had removed? As you said, "someone else may be able to provide references", why dont you be that "someone" who could provide the needed references and all will be well... And I will ignore your dig on me being "helpful" for the time being... -- ¿Amar៛Talk to me/My edits 06:12, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- First of all, understand that I am NOT from PESIT - the college didn't even exist when I went to college decades ago.
- Not sure why you brought this in, I never talked of you belonging/not belonging to PESIT. So I will pass this one...
- First of all, understand that I am NOT from PESIT - the college didn't even exist when I went to college decades ago.
- "Heavy handed, judgmental editing" is exactly what it implies - instead of carefully trimming/tagging, you just knocked off swaths of text in a "kill 'em all, let God sort 'em out" manner, on the basis that you judge it to be an ad or irrelevant. If you look at the way most considerate editors work, you will notice that before any mass editing, they post to the talk page, tell the world what they plan to do, and let it cool for a few days before taking any action.
- Well, we cannot allow tags to remain in article for ages and just let it remain that way isn't it. If you really wanted that section to have remained untouched, all that was needed was to add references to the sentences, which you never did. And you want to come and accuse me of "Heavy handed judgemental editing". I want to re-iterate again that if you have references to those sentences, why dont you add them and let it done with. Isn't this edit of yours also an example of "Heavy handed, judgmental editing"? You could have provided references there or have added the appropriate tag, instead of removing the section, isn't it? As they say, "Practice before you preach"
- Before you get completely out of control: see the reason for removal of that paragraph. There is a huge difference between removing something that violates a bunch of WP rules, v/s removing something that you simply don't understand or care about. Have you even *read* the stuff I removed? And how long did you go hunting through my edits before you finally found something that you could pound your chest about? How does that justify what you did? You removed stuff that was factual, but had no citations. *I* removed something that was hearsay, original research, had no citations, slandered various people, and was essentially a bunch of nonsensical gossip. Get a grip on yourself - whether I was right or wrong in my edits does not in any way justify yours. Achitnis (talk) 14:00, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- Tsk, tsk. You removed something, I removed something. You are justifying yourself and I am justifying myself. If you do not follow something, dont preach others to do the same. As you had reasons to remove something in that article, I too had reasons to remove something in this article. Its your word against mine, and I will go with mine. And its you who should get a grip on, trying to accuse me of something that I never said as seen below. Thanks -- ¿Amar៛Talk to me/My edits 04:53, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- You removed the Phenom reference, even though it clearly pointed to an article on Wikipedia, which meant that it was at least one thing you should have checked before clubbing everything under "budding rock-groups" and knocking it off. Also, it is perfectly OK for some material to be unreferenced, provided that at least some of it is referenced. In this case, your edit completely castrated the fact that PESIT is highly supportive of cultural activities that spread beyond the scope of the institution. Within the scope of "Engineering colleges in Karnataka", PESIT does have a record of being extremely successful in inter-collegiate, cultural competitions, which is a fact worth noting.
- Hello, Phenom was not a reference, it was a wikilinked sentence in this article. A wikilink does not prove anything, it is a citation that decides whether a sentence is relevant to the article or not. If I am checking for citations, I check for citations in the article, I dont click on wikilinks. And I believe you are/were the manager of Phenom, which makes me wonder... If PESIT is a college known for winning cultural competitions, please provide citations. You can't just put something like that in an Wikipedia article without any citations and expect others to take that at face value.
- Please note that this is an article about a college that may be unimportant to you, but not so to a lot of other people. People who read the article would like to know more about it than just its physical location. While I agree that the article started off pretty badly, it isn't going to be improved in any way by gutting it.
- Dont put words in my mouth. Where have I ever mentioned that PESIT is an unimportant college? I will pass this one as well. We can have a fruitful discussion if you could respond to only what I have said and not to something that I have never said.
- You should also be aware of the fact that most people shy away from dealing with large changes (which the frightening {{unreferenced}} tag boxes tend to imply). However, they have no problem dealing with smaller/granular {{cite}} tags which typically deal with a single item, instead of an entire section/article.
- If you really have a problem with my removal, all you need to do is to add the sentences back with citation. What is stopping you from doing so? I removed them because no one was bothered to address the citation tags already present in the article.
- And I actually do spend most of my WP editing time providing references, and knock off stuff only if it clearly violates WP guidelines - and I always make my intentions clear on the talk page days before I actually carry out the action.
- For the nth time, add citations to the sentences if you really believe that they are needed for this article. We are having a discussion about nothing and I dont wish to continue further on this -- ¿Amar៛Talk to me/My edits 08:34, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Disciplinary measures
[edit]While the college did make its mark on the news because of its recently enforced disciplinary measures (the infraction slips and the cards), I don't think this can be classified as "encyclopedic" information. I may be wrong though. Lets discuss about this and post your thoughts here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.247.216.130 (talk) 16:09, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
More Vandalism
[edit]It seems some people have a very wrong idea about what is classified as encyclopedic knowledge. It doesn't matter what negative views you hear about PESIT from the local students of Bangalore.. It is just the opinion of some of the students here. I am a student of PESIT since early 2004 and this is what I have to say about these recent comments:
The college also enforces students to be either in class or outside campus so as to "hold up" the reputation of the college. The principal of the college can be seen harassing students not attending class during class hours, being indifferent to any reasons. The college replicates some organizations which can be seen as similar to a communist regime, with little or no voice given to students' opinions. Any suggestions or complaints are often taken as offense and the students are harassed.
This is entirely untrue. I know this from personal experience. The college management always lend a ear to the student's queries if the students go and address their issues to them. I have personally disturbed Dr Jawahar late in the evenings and he has always been kind and hospitable to me. He has listened to my issues and rants, offered solutions and promised their delivery. And trust me, he has delivered. The principal, HODs and other management members are also very approachable.
The college lacks the basic sanitary measures in the bathrooms, resulting in foul smell.
The 2 older blocks have less than average sanitary facilities, but it is a pleasure to relieve oneself in the bathrooms in the newer blocks. And again, does the wikipedia page really need to have this information?
The structure of teaching is such that professors play the role of teachers, and thus, lacking in the basic communication skills required.
The professors are atleast at par with the professors of other engineering colleges of Bangalore, if not better. With respect to the communication skills, in most cases, it is the students who lack the ability to listen and concentrate. Again, there MAY be professors who are not upto the mark, but then again, this is not supposed to be mentioned on the wikipedia page of the institute.
Teaching is done in English but switches constantly to the local language Kannada, thereby thwarting the development of students from other areas.
There are a few teachers who sometimes engage in conversing with the students in Kannada, but this is limited to jokes and other personal or unimportant banter. These things help the teachers to get along with the local students. The lecture is always delivered in English.
The teachers often play the role a of dictator or a primary school teacher by shouting / yelling at students, personally insulting students, threatening to inform the parents of adult students, or chalk throwing.
This is the most ridiculous of all the comments posted recently. Most of the teachers remain composed even when facing the most loud and misbehaving class. Sometimes they crack under pressure and discipline the students causing trouble. There are almost no cases of personal insults and threats and physical action.
They can also been seen answering personal phone calls during class room hours, even though it is banned from college by the VTU.
While this may be true in very few cases, it again doesn't classify as encyclopedic knowledge. Some teachers carry their phones to class because they often have other work outside the bounds of the classroom, like consulting work in other IT companies. Cases where they attend to personal calls are extremely rare, and these cases can be reported to the Head of Department or the Principal and action will be taken.
The college is also known to thwart innovative ideas in the cultural department, and lacks any sort of student council in order for its further development.
One of the reasons why the management is against the formation of any student council is because they don't want to students to waste their time in political activities and concentrate on what is important: learning. The principal, heads of department, the director and the management of the college are very approachable and always lend a ear to the students issues. I know this from personal experience. I have troubled the principal and Dr. Jawahar late in the night a couple of times and they always listened to me.
Pesit is well known throught the community as a "jail" or primary school, due to the lack or personal choice given to students' attire. They have been quite successful in developing students into "drones" or robots due to the stringent enforcing of rules. Any student breaking the simplest of rules such as no. 2 on the list is clearly warned by the principal to either follow the rules, or will be given a TC to switch colleges. The pes boys hostel is one of the worst places to live in.They dont give you space even to breathe. Its more like a mental and physical torture to the students and the parents.
These are again all opinions of the disgruntled students of the college. You can go and talk to any third year or fourth year student in the college who is has an active social life and is adequately serious about his studies and you will never hear about her complaining about these issues. And once again, this is not something which should be mentioned in wikiedpia. The strict dress code is an issue though. I have lived in the PES Boys Hostel for 4 years. While some of the rules are unconventionally strict, it is very comfortable and one of my best life experiences living in the hostel. This is the opinion of every "normal" student who has spent some considerable time in the hostel. Students don't become drones and robots due to the college rules.. It is the upbringing and the schooling in her earlier years which determine her attitude. PES has some alumni who have made it very big. I know students who are currently studying in PES who have started entrepreneurship and their own ventures. Hardly "robotic". Infact, the college has a special cell which helps students with entrepreneurship and bringing their ideas into reality.
Sorry if I went a little overboard with my comments.
Needless to say, I am removing these comments from the page. Any further discussions can take place here.

I actually managed to find out who the "vandal" and i had a heated argument about this with him. He maintains that some of the things he mentioned were true, if not put up in the right way. I have decided to start a criticism section where I will address all the points in the proper manner.
Hope that's okay.

- Well, you can't say that none of this is true :P. However, none of the above is encyclopedia material, especially without any citations? Can we nominate this article for locking? TD 59.92.178.230 (talk) 22:18, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure if you understand the purpose of an encyclopedia, but it definitely does not exist to record personal experiences. Autobiographies exist to serve that purpose. If you cannot come up with independently verifiable facts (I would suggest that you look up the meaning of these words), you should reserve these opinions of yours in a mouthpiece.
Cleanup required
[edit]This article needs substantial cleanup and addition of references. Unencyclopedic, non-notable information like the entire section "Disciplinary Measures in PESIT: Infraction Slips:" should probably be removed. We need to add reliable secondary sources and improve the quality of the article. Hopefully somebody can take this task. To get secondary references, use this google news search. There are very good notable events and achievements that can be added instead of concentrating on mundane things. All the best. --Rvian00 (talk) 16:01, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
Move
[edit]I have moved the page to P.E.S Institute of Technology, because that is the common name, and according to WP:COMMONNAME, it should be this way. Please state any objections. MikeLynch (talk) 06:42, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Corrected establishment date
[edit]It is clear from no. of references that the establishment date for PESIT is 1972 not 1988. Amar Kumar (talk) 09:06, 29 September 2011 (UTC) so ppl plz maintain correct information.. TY :)
- That is for the PES Group of Institutions, and not PESIT. Read your references properly, and you'll get to know that. Lynch7 12:04, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- You might want to read the website here. Lynch7 12:08, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, but that information seems to be half correct. The establishment date that you are talking about is for B.E. only check [1]. as you well know the college includes all departments like MBA, MCA, BBM. How can we arrive at a date of BE commencement as estb. date. Perhaps it needs a better clarification. Correct me if i am wrong. TY :) your suggestions are most welcome.Amar Kumar (talk) 14:07, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- Simple, the college, as PESIT, in Hosakerehalli, was started in 1988. Before, it was located (I mean programs other than BE), primarily in the Srinagar campus, opposite KR Hospital, as PES College. Not as PESIT. :) Lynch7 14:52, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- Other programs were then later shifted to the Hosakerehalli campus. Lynch7 14:53, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for clarifying. I didn't know that. Amar Kumar (talk) 03:31, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
