Question about classification
[edit]Shouldn't this subspecies be merged into Panthera leo leo, like the Asiatic lion (P. l. persica) was? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Malcolmlucascollins (talk • contribs) 03:34, 17 November 2019 (UTC)
- Such a change would need a source. The recent revision of subspecies only considered living and non-fossil subspecies. There was no assessment of fossil species. While we might surmise that the date of the fossil record suggests a modern lion, it could also be an older lion that predated the migration of modern lions from north Africa into Asia, which occured 10-40k years ago.
