Conversion to Minor

[edit]

Regarding the discussion of Martino's "conversion to minor" methods -- I was left with the impression that was using just minor scales (which I thought he meant dorian mode) in a kind of extrapolation scheme. So I guess if we happen to be in C major his system would call for a D dorian scale for improvising, for example. If that is NOT what is going on, then what IS going on? I'm not disputing that he is doing something other than using "exclusively minor" scales, but I will say that I don't understand what the description in this article is trying to say. Either he is using exclusively minor scales for soloing or he isn't. Granted that a D dorian mode has the same notes mixed up as a C major scale, or A relative minor scale, but if he is saying he is always playing a minor scale that means he is exclusively playing minor scales.
