2008?

[edit]

Penelope is a 2006 film, as noted by IMDB and on other Wikipedia entries which mention it. --PhantomofFire (talk) 09:03, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just becasue it was theatrically released to the US (and UK) in 2008 does not make it a 2008 film. Its production and premier happened in 2006, so it is a 2006 film. --PhantomofFire (talk) 09:14, 10 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm wondering if the reason that the release is listed as 2008 is because the version released in the U.S. on DVD differs significantly from the movie as it was seen in theaters. It is my understanding that a few key scenes were cut, and the scene with Penelope's literal unmasking is different in the DVD version. And I'd very much like to find out how to get my hands on the original version, because it sounds superior to the film on DVD. Could someone with more knowledge of the film world find out what happened on this film, and how studios can make significant changes like this and not make it clear that revisions like this have occurred? Chicken or Egg?

[edit]

What I would like to know is which came first, the book or the movie? The wikipedia articles on the movie and on Marilyn Kaye seem to indicate that the book was written first and that the movie is based on the book, but when I look up the book on amazon, it states explicitly on the cover that Marilyn Kaye wrote the book based on the screenplay. This indicates to me that the book was based on the movie rather than the other way around. Perhaps these articles should be changed?--BigBang616 (talk) 08:06, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Penelope Poster 2.jpg

[edit]

Image:Penelope Poster 2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Country

[edit]

Any idea why a film so British in flavour, and so located in the aristocracy, pretends to be in the US ? -- Beardo (talk) 00:47, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Does it? I don't recall it ever saying where it was set... I assumed it was set in a fictional country blending elements of the USA and Britan Shadzane (talk) 00:09, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
1) Because this is a British-American coproduction 2)Because the British are morons who think Dutch-Americans are annoying, British-accented, snobby a-holes, just like themselves, although Penelope should be the one speaking with a British accent since she looks like the average Englishman with that snout of hers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.10.46.8 (talk) 19:51, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cast in the summary

[edit]

I've removed who the various actors portray from the summary since one of them is a huge spoiler. People expect to find spoilers in the plot section, but there's no need to put them in the summary, this isn't Citizen Kane after all. Furthermore, I don't think anybody will recognise the characters so there's not much point having them in the summary anyway. Shadebug (talk) 16:11, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Based on a Faery Tale?

[edit]

Wasn't there a faery tale somewhere with a similar plot? If there is, the article should mention it. Unfortunately, I cannot recall the exact name of the faery tale, or I'd look it up myself. 91.49.97.133 (talk) 02:11, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Different edits of the film

[edit]

I have two different versions of this film and they very by almost 20 minutes in running time. Also I watched them side by side and the opening of two versions are cut very differently from each other. Does anyone know the back story about these very different versions of the film? — Preceding unsigned comment added by JMacGill (talkcontribs) 05:59, 11 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dubious - Decades?!!

[edit]

Plot begins saying "Decades earlier" and precedes to describe events over five generations and then two more generation later with the birth of a grand-daughter, and then this girl is a young adult.... Sounds more like centuries than mere "decades"! --Eliyahu S Talk 19:19, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
