Opening Sentence[edit]

"The Pillar of Shame is a 8-metre tall bronze, copper or concrete statue, sculpted by Danish artist Jens Galschiot. Currently, five sculptures have been erected in Rome, Hong Kong, Mexico, Brazil and Berlin."

Chronological confusion?[edit]

"Immediately following the candlelit vigil on the night of June 4, 1997, [...] at 3 a.m. students succeeded in moving the 2-tonne statue into the podium [...]. The Pillar was re-erected at the same place on April 16, 1997 under bad weather conditions."

How can it be "re-erected" at an earlier date? There seems to be some confusion as to date here. --Sumple (Talk) 08:15, 17 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I found a web site that says it was re-erected JUNE 16th not April 16th (and that it was moved into the building on the 4th but not assemebled, ther were concerns if the building was strong enough to support it). http://www.aidoh.dk/art_and_events/pos/hongkong/ukposhkchronology.htm (note: if this was in WP we'd need to fix its grammar and spelling.) The Pillar of Shame in Rome?[edit]

I think it's absurd that the Pillar of Shame in Rome has no relationship regarding the deaths and destruction caused by Roman Catholics since the founding of the Church. The Pillar of Shame in Hong Kong[edit]

This article says the Hong Kong sculpture was destroyed in December of 2021, but the sources seem to me to only say that it was removed on 22 December. is there a good, clear source that says it was destroyed as well as / after being removed? Kdammers (talk) 18:44, 23 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2021/12/22/hong-kong-pillar-shame-tiananmen/ the artist said it was demolished, "The Pillar of Shame is getting demolished right now in Hong Kong". From my reading, it was dismantled into different parts and then the different parts were stored.
