@Jac16888: That Piotr Domaradzki and User:Belissarius were/are the same person is clear. He stated his real name on his home Wikipedia user page. Images on the pages show the same person. Records on Wikimedia projects such as here, here and here unambiguously connect the names. Independent reliable sources like here and here state the connection. Google translate makes these and other sources usable even when texts are Polish and the translations aren't perfect. Nothing that Roman_Spinner wrote was contentious and everything was easily verifiable. I'm disappointed to see that an administrator removed a section about a notable and prominent member of the Wikimedia community with no attempt to verify the material. Tribute to Piotr Domaradzki in his newspaper, Dziennik Związkowy[edit]

In the November 6, 2014 edition of Dziennik Związkowy under the headline, "Belissarius już nic nie napisze… Pożegnanie red. Piotra Domaradzkiego [Belissarius will not write anything now… Farewell to ed. Piotr Domaradzki]", Andrzej Kazimierczak writes a tribute to the paper's former editor-in-chief. Immediately below, alongside a photograph of Piotr Domaradzki and a reproduction of the Wikipedia globe, there is another tribute by Natalia Szafran-Kozakowska and Krzysztof Machocki from stowarzyszenie Wikimedia Polska (Wikimedia Polska Association). Sub-headed "Wikipedia bids farewell to ed. Domaradzki        In the person of Piotr Domaradzki Polish Wikipedia loses a magnificent editor and a good friend", the tribute states:

"Wikipedians are an odd community. We write the entries for the world's largest encyclopedia, together we create the largest educational project in history, but for one another remain virtually anonymous. Rare exceptions are those Wikipedians who with their work earned themselves respect, trust and admiration. Peter Domaradzki, known to friends from Wikipedia as Belissarius, was just such a pillar of the community, a person who with his work served as an example for others.

He worked in Polish Wikipedia for nearly a decade. During that time, through its medium, he shared with the world thousands of hours of his work: he co-created nearly 11 thousand entries, in which he made nearly 110 thousand edits. It's a spectacular contribution of work, few could match him. Among the entries written by him, over 20 articles ended up with a medal as entries recognized by the community as the best written, most professionally sourced and of most value among the 1.1 million total articles in Polish Wikipedia. One of the female Wikipedians even coined in his honor the common noun – "belissariusites", meaning entries so good that the discussion over granting the medal is a mere formality.

His last article (about the wars between England and France over reigning in America) received the medal on October 24, two days after the accident. Belissarius by then did not learn about it. But the knowledge which he shared with the world, will remain accessible to all people on Earth."

Main title header: Piotr Domaradzki or Peter K. Domaradzki[edit]

The biographical entry in Polish Wikipedia is titled pl:Peter K. Domaradzki, while its interwiki link to Silesian Wikipedia leads to szl:Piotr Domaradzki (pisorz) (the parenthetical qualifier "(pisorz)", which means "(writer)" in Silesian language, relates to the fact that there is another, unrelated Piotr Domaradzki (born 1951 in Słupsk), a Polish film sound editor with around 40 film credits). The other Piotr Domaradzki has an entry only in Polish Wikipedia (pl:Piotr Domaradzki (filmowiec), the qualifier "(filmowiec)" meaning "(filmmaker)"), while both Wikipedias have interwiki disambiguation pages (pl:Piotr Domaradzki and szl:Piotr Domaradzki) listing the two men.

As for the form of the name, itself, Polish Wikipedia apparently followed its version of English Wikipedia's guideline, Wikipedia:Naming conventions (identity)#Self-identification, in that on his user page in Polish Wikipedia (pl:Wikipedysta:Belissarius), he wrote, "Prywatnie Peter K. Domaradzki [In private Peter K. Domoradzki]". Since it appears that he had "Americanized" his given name, plus middle initial, for everyday "private life" use as an American citizen, but continued to use "Piotr Domaradzki" as his professional name / pen name, as witness his writings and his name on the masthead of his newspaper, Dziennik Związkowy, I made the decision to use the professional name by which he was best known to the reading public who read his non-Wikipedia writings. All other name forms exist as redirects. If discussion develops around this matter and consensus decides that the use of the "Americanized" form is more appropriate, a move remains as an option. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 11:16, 7 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Roman Spinner: I think that's a valid analysis; I'd also support Piotr since it's his birth (given) name, and we don't know if he officially changed his first name to Peter in his documents. When I lived in US, I told people to call me Peter too, but I would never consider it to by my real and official name, and I have and will sign my name as Piotr (speaking as another Piotr/Peter here). That said, it was just pointed to me that he did move his own Polish Wikipedia page to "Peter K." using edit summary of "real name", so... I am not sure anymore. His published books (Google Books, Polish National Library [1]) seem to use Piotr K. Domaradzki, so I'd at the very least suggest moving this to Piotr K. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 01:35, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion about Wikipedia section in the article[edit]

@Bgwhite:, in my judgement, there is consensus to include information about Wikipedia activity in biographic articles about Notable Wikipedians. Whether living, the obvious Jimmy Wales or Betsy Devine for example, or dead such as Tron Øgrim or Aaron Swartz or Adrianne Wadewitz, if there was participation in Wikipedia (or other WikiMedia projects) reported in independent reliable sources, a summary is included in the article. I found a dozen examples with a few minutes of looking and guestimate that hundreds of Wikipedia biographies include content about contributing to our encyclopedia. I restored the section that you removed (but many thanks for the other corrections). Let's discuss how much should be included and how it should be worded. I support mentioning his wiki activity here. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 01:49, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I oppose this because the section fails WP:SPS. We are citing ourselves in essence. 104.218.136.34 (talk) 18:49, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As already mentioned above, Piotr Domaradzki's Wikipedia activity was detailed within the appreciation published in Dziennik Związkowy, the world's oldest continually-published Polish-language newspaper (English translation included). Inline citations confirming such details (outside of Wikipedia) are appended to the article. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 21:42, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
There is already a consensus not to include the internal wikiproject, user, etc. pages.. It is the policy, WP:NOTMEMORIAL.104.218.136.34 (talk) 13:54, 11 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
WP:NOTMEMORIAL refers to whether the subject is notable or not, not whether we can mention their Wikipedia activity or not. Volunteer Marek  14:42, 11 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Doesnt matter. Point is, we are building too much fluff about his wiki activities. 104.218.136.34 (talk) 14:49, 11 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You're the one who brought up WP:NOTMEMORIAL and now, after I've pointed out that you're misrepresenting what it says you claim that it "Doesnt matter". Ok. If it doesn't then stop edit warring and try to get consensus. Volunteer Marek  16:06, 11 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You do realize i only made two reverts, so templating me for edit warring was both inappropriate and inaccurate. 104.218.136.34 (talk) 19:05, 11 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is, itself, newsworthy and is constantly mentioned in media outlets (see Wikipedia in the news and Wikipedia in culture). When a notable Wikipedian devotes eleven years of his life to the project, creates thousands of professionally-written articles on major historical topics and considers his Wikipedia work to be his legacy, such facts become essential components of his biographical entry and should in no way be considered fluff. —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 15:39, 11 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

In Memoriam[edit]

A page of Polish (but also multilingual) condolence messages and reminiscences is on Polish Wikipedia at pl:Wikipedysta:Belissarius/(Ostatnie) podziękowania [User:Belissarius/(Final) thanks] —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 17:22, 11 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
