Prehistory of QuebecPre-Columbian history of Quebec – I'm requesting a move/change of name because this is a full article that talks about Quebec's pre-Columbian or precolonial period. It covers 9000BC to European contact. Since most of the article covers time ranges that are more recent than 3000BC, the word prehistory is not accurate. But pre-columbian is because it ends at European contact. I cannot change the name myself as a redirect with that name already exists (the redirect leads to a subsection of the History of Quebec's page). @Safyrr:, given the amount of time this has hung around at technical requests, and the issues you describe regarding the title, I think this merits a move discussion. Mdewman6 (talk) 21:36, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Technically, "prehistory" means the history before writing. Did the inhabitants of Quebec have a writing system before European contact? If not, then the current article is just fine. Rreagan007 (talk) 16:04, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Precolonial history of Quebec should be the name, precolumbian isn't commonly used Always beleive in hope (talk) 01:45, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Comment This is a much better choice. Columbus isn't really associated with Quebec. We shouldn't automatically use him for everything between Alaska and Patagonia. Killuminator (talk) 01:27, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • In this case, "prehistory", "pre-Columbian history", and "precolonial history" are all similar and all subtly different in meaning and scope. (I disagree with the suggestion that 3000BC has anything to do with it.) In this article, essentially written by one editor who used only a single source Quebec prehistory, the title is at least valid and I don't see a strong reason to change it. • Oppose move. As User:Rreagan007 stated, prehistory, simply put, is before writing. The current title is simple and accurate. I can't see how any of the above suggested titles is an improvement over the current one. Masterhatch (talk) 20:10, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Current title is fine, as prehistory means before writing as already discussed. SnowFire (talk) 07:29, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
