Proposed merge with Property rights (economics)

[edit]

As it is currently written, Property rights (economics) addresses the topic of Property rights more broadly than simply economics. I would suggest merging it into this page, which now redirects to Property. Property rights is a signficant -- and broad enough -- topic that it deserves its own page, I think. Kind regards, DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 23:03, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I would support the overall idea of merging the narrow/theoretical idea of Property Rights in economics with a broader article on Property Rights. However, that article plainly does not exist at present because, as you noted, Property rights redirects to Property. I do not support merging Property Rights (either Prop Rights (economics) or just plain Prop Rights) into Property, as the concept of Prop Rights is really too important to get lost in a merge. I agree with N2e: property rights is a distinct concept from the general subject of property and is therefore justified in having its own page.-Battlecry 02:47, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If anyone would like to start an article on Property rights (not the current redirect), or do so collaboratively, I'm in. I'll be too busy for the next few weeks, but would be happy after the first week of July to dig out some reliable sources from institutions in political science, economics and sociology to help get a decent starter article in place. Ping me on my Talk page if interested. N2e (talk) 05:22, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Great, thanks! DA Sonnenfeld (talk) 10:20, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

New redirect

[edit]

In the meantime, the redirect has been changed to Right to property, which is about the acknowledgement in general of the right to have property. The same merge discussions could apply to the new target, because Property rights (economics) is in fact also about the right to have property. Although the perspective is different (legal and economical), I think there is enough relationship between both articles to justify a merge. Bever (talk) 20:49, 16 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, it seems to me that one could the term 'property right(s)' in two senses:

  • the right to a certain property (thing); this in fact the same as 'property' in a legal sense, as in legal perspective, 'property' is a bundle of rights, not a thing;
  • the right to have property acknowledged (the right to property as a human right).

So may be the present page would better be a disambiguation page. Bever (talk) 20:58, 16 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
