[edit]

I went ahead and merged the articles for R160A (New York City Subway car) and R160B (New York City Subway car) into this article. There was some overlapping and duplication of content (for example, both the R160A and R160B are equipped with FIND displays, and the description of them was nearly identical on both old articles). Also, there was some content that was exclusively on one page or the other, but applied to both. R36 (talk) 16:03, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's cool but next time, you should try to make a discussion letting people know before you go and do it.--iGeMiNix 20:55, 19 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

R160Bs don't run on the E. R160As do. It says so in one of Wikipedia's articles: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_City_Subway. I'll change it now, so it's not awkward later, you know. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ManofQueens (talkcontribs) 00:48, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

They all do now, and many are on the (A) line now as we speak. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2000:610B:4600:E4A5:A082:CA47:DD3E (talk) 22:18, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted Changes to Infobox

[edit]

ManOfQueens, it seems the last few edits you made to the infobox broke it. Now, I'm not great at infoboxes myself, so I simply did a manual revert to fix it. (See "Lines Served") Sorry, but whatever you were trying to add will need to be readded, hopefully in a manner that doesn't break the infobox again. 65.33.107.187 (talk) 04:22, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

KK. Also, it says in one of our articles that an R160B runs on the R, so I'll just go change that now.ManofQueens (talk) 12:15, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't do it without sources. Our source is linked in the article, and it says there are no R160s on the R.
Also, this infobox parameter uses a template, so please don't destroy it. Instead, edit the template itself (when the source changes).
Thank you. Vcohen (talk) 12:28, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yo, Vcohen. Are you trying to tell me that another Wikipedia article is not a reliable source? ManofQueens (talk) 22:16, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia cannot be a source. Articles can (and must) have sources, but not be them. What article are you speaking about? Vcohen (talk) 22:24, 15 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
YES! Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a reliable source.

I am speaking about the 14th Street-Union Square article, and in the section that shows the BMT Broadway Line Platforms, the is a picture of an (R) train made up of R160s. ManofQueens (talk) 12:34, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That image is from 2010. In 2010 they did run on the R, but we only reflect the current status, not the entire history. Vcohen (talk) 13:00, 17 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yards: Assignments/Storage

[edit]

There has been some disagreement among users as to where the yards these cars belong to. According to our source, the trains assigned to the C service are assigned to the East New York yard. However, this article uses the word maintained to describe the yards the cars belong to. The word maintained means kept or stored, generally referring to where the cars are laid up when they are not used, having nothing to do with which yards are capable of performing maintenance work on the cars. The word assigned generally refers to the yards to which the cars get maintenance work. While it is true that the 207th Street Yard is generally not capable of performing maintenance work on the R160's, during night hours, when the C service does not operate, the cars are laid up on the tracks of the 207th Street Yard and do not travel all the way back to the East New York yard (the same goes for the R32s on the J/Z). Therefore, either the 207th Street Yard should be added to the section describing yard assignments or the word assigned should be used in lieu of maintained. To avoid an edit war, please leave comments and/or other suggestions on the above statements Mysteryman557 (talk) 17:01, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Assigned and Maintained are no different. Maintained has nothing to do with where they are kept or stored. C trains are stored in multiple yards- 207, 174 and Pitkin. (M Trains are stored in Jamaica too, yet 4 car R160s have never been considered to be "Maintained" there.) If such were to be added to each page, we would have to change a lot of car type pages for consistency. (R32s to Pitkin, R46s to 36th, 207th and Coney Island, R68As to Concourse, etc.) Maintained has never meant stored in any use I have seen, here or elsewhere. I removed the statement because it was simply wrong. If you want to add where they are stored, I don't see the purpose, but personally have no issue. However, if you do so, please use the correct terminology for such! (And, even if you were to make such changes- So far, the R160s have been running on runs "put in" from Pitkin, not 207.) However R32s should be added to ENY, as 12 are assigned there for maintenance purposes!(the rest of the R32s on the J are not. Fairly confusing perhaps...)74.64.111.51 (talk) 17:49, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

R160A-1 and R160A-2 are not actual designations.

[edit]

The page being cited was written by two then high schoolers, Henry Man and Kris Datta. The nomenclature R160A-1 and R160A-2 are found on no source originating from the MTA itself. Most notably, they are not on the car assignments (http://www.thejoekorner.com/carassignments/index.html), nor are they on the car specification sheets(http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/caption.pl?/img/cars/sheet-r160.jpg), which are published in the Sansone book(https://jhupbooks.press.jhu.edu/content/new-york-subways). In general, if a designation does not show up on either of those, it does not exist within NYCTA.

My suspicion is that R160A-1 and R160A-2 originated as a misreading of R160B-1 and R160B-2 which are designations used on assignments to indicate Alstom and Siemens propulsion respectively. Because of the above I am removing the erroneous designations. 66.65.95.149 (talk) 22:00, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I wish to add that I do not mean to imply that the work done on that page is sub-par. Mr. Datta made a very useful resource, which I am sure is why it has been hosted on Mr. Korman's website. That said, it in no way overrides the actual MTA documents with regards to nomenclature. 66.65.95.149 (talk) 22:22, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have separated the assignments into R160A (Four Car Sets), R160A (Five Car Sets) and R160B. The terms R160A and R160B are official designations. Mysteryman557 (talk) 01:10, 20 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I understand now, thanks. I though you were referring to Joe Korman as a then-high-schooler. Epicgenius (talk)17:37, 20 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It would be wise, and intelligent to call the R160B's the R160BA's for the R160B's equipped with Alstom propulsion, and the R160BS's for the R160B's equipped with Siemens propulsion equipment. This also simplifies thing as we know it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2000:610B:4600:B12D:2C21:F187:8BCB (talk) 07:46, 5 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Order of train bullets

[edit]

I saw that for R160A, service is assigned to the C, J, L, M, and Z. Would it be better for it to say C, J, Z, L, and M? Just an idea for color matching, and most of the bullets are this way on the map. (GeneralPunger (talk) 13:58, 26 June 2015 (UTC))[reply]

Car Assignments

[edit]

I think that it might be worth mentioning where these cars have been historically assigned. For instance I would like to mention why and when some of the R160As were assigned to the C. [1] --Kew Gardens 613 (talk) 23:51, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Kew Gardens 613: if you do, you should give a short summary of some of the major assignment changes (i.e. don't mention that the R160s were tested on the A, B, D, and G trains, because that's unimportant, and also, don't mention the exact dates the services were changed). The C train assignments, and the temporary R train reassignment during 2013-2014, are probably the most important, so go for it. (Also, don't include the former V and W trains; we can add the W train back when it's reinstated, but it's not really important to have an exact history of that service.) Kylo Ren (talk) 02:10, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No reason, otherwise, we should do that to all other car types that ran in our system, which is almost impossible to track. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.3.79.119 (talk) 00:05, 23 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
We already have a reason for why the rolling stock change was made on the C (New York City Subway service) article. It is not new information. Also, just because we added this one particular change does not mean we should add all such similar changes for all other rolling stock. Kylo Ren (talk) 01:00, 23 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

R160 R trains still run frequently at runs hours. RedProofHill123 (talk) 02:23, 15 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you mean rush hours...

A quick update for you're information; As of February 24, 2020, the R160's fleet at Coney Island Yard has essentially dwindled down to only 210 Siemens equipped cars, and with 40 more cars being transferred to Jamaica Yard for the CBTC conversion for usage on the (E) & (F) lines very recently. The (F) line is essentially all R160's at present, and the (R) line is rapidly losing its R46's to Coney Island as well. These changes in cars reassignments are also ongoing, so stayed tuned. You can also update your pages accordingly.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2000:610B:4600:15D1:E6AD:C40A:709D (talk) 02:42, 27 February 2020 (UTC) BTW - there are no more Alskaw (Alstom/Kawasaki) R160's assigned to Coney Island Yard anymore. They are all based at Jamaica Yard for now. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2000:610B:4600:31B5:B668:9EA:4EC2 (talk) 04:52, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Just a quick update - as of March 10, 2020 only 70 R160BS's (the Siemens variety) are remaining at Coney Island Yard for service mostly on the (Q) line, with the (N) & (W) using whatever leftovers are available. They have started to mix-up the R160BA's (Alstom powered) & R160BS's (Siemens powered) cars within the same train on the Queens Blvd lines very recently. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2000:610B:4600:4DA3:8263:4DAF:AFC1 (talk) 02:24, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Just a another quick update - as of April 26, 2020 only 50 R160BS's (the Siemens powered variety) are available at Coney Island Yard out of a total of 570 cars that they once had very recently, for service mostly on the (Q) line, with the (N) & (W) using whatever leftovers are available. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2000:610B:4600:E432:8755:5EFD:4519 (talk) 23:28, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

New Update. There are at least twenty (20) sets of R160's both A & B types, and many Siemens sets assigned to Coney Island Yard are on loan to 207/Pitkin Yards, and are currently operating in service on the (A) line from 5:00AM until the line closes down at 12:30AM. The (C) line is now completely R46's now as we speak. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2604:2000:610B:4600:E4A5:A082:CA47:DD3E (talk) 22:23, 15 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

R160A and R160B revisited

[edit]

Eight years ago, the R160A (New York City Subway car) and R160B (New York City Subway car) articles were merged here. I'm not calling for a revival of the two articles, but I am urging a split of the commons gallery with R160A and R160B images, partially due to the volume, and partially due to the distinction between the two of them. All we have to do is make sure they're sorted out properly.---------User:DanTD (talk) 12:35, 11 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

R160 maximum speed
