Why is it necessary to mention his "race" - the other pages for his fellow-contestants do not describe them as white or African-American or whatever. I looked for a policy but didn't find - would appreciate being pointed in the right direction if one exists.

Because it marks an achievement in minority progress and the Show has only hired whites. Randal is from New Jersey, but I forget which city. Regarding his race, Randal has been a leading advocate for minority involvement in the IT sector for many years, both on his own and through organizations like CTCNet.org; it's probably addressing it in the context of his work and activism. -Acarvin 17 Dec 2005
