Websters?

This isn't a dictionary. Reconnaissance is an English word. We should not care what it's origin is. I removed all the content from Websters so we can let them continue to do their job --Hutcher (talk) 04:53, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Spies are non-combatants?

Not true, espionage is set out by the Geneva Convention under the Land Warfare Act and are categorically para/military personnel.Bunnyman78 (talk) 14:14, 7 March 2012 (UTC)

Preliminary reconnaissance ?

This article refers to "Preliminary reconnaissance", but a Google search shows up very few references to that term that aren't copies of WP. Where there is a use of the term outside WP (see [1]) it's not compatible with the definition in WP. It looks like only one user has been adding it to WP. Unless someone can find a WP:RS definition, I propose removing it from this article. DexDor (talk) 20:01, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Agree, "preliminary reconnaissance" is just reconnaissance with the word preliminary in front of it, thankfully we haven't got night-time reconnaissance or quiet reconnaissance? Might be worth Prodding Preliminary reconnaissance. GraemeLeggett (talk) 20:48, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Reconnaissance push ?

Next in my sights is the term "Reconnaissance push". Google only finds the term 723 times (compared for example with nearly 2 million for "armoured reconnaissance") and most of those are Wikipedia, non-military, behind paywall or full of US military jargon. I propose that "Reconnaissance push" be removed from this article or reduced to a single sentence. DexDor (talk)

The BRD cycle is your friend - use it. Should editors and sources that can explain the concept and preferably what other countries call it, then it can go back in. GraemeLeggett (talk) 20:15, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Eyes in the sky

Two things. One, I'm not sure "strategic reconnaissance" should be redirecting, since there's no mention of it on the page... Two, I do wonder why there's no mention of aerial or satellite recce... TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 19:26, 25 September 2011 (UTC) (P.S. I'm not watchisting this...)

1. So what? Recconnaisance redirects here also. 2. Aerial and satellite are included in lists of types of recce in first part of article. DexDor (talk) 06:55, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

File:Recon72.JPG Nominated for speedy Deletion

An image used in this article, File:Recon72.JPG, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Copyright violations
What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request

Civil Recce

I would challenge the assertion that "Civil Recce" per se is a military discipline in the same way that the other forms of recce are conducted. Human factors is certainly an area for intelligence analysis but both the references cited are describing an analysis ativity, rather than a directed collection activity.

It may be that this article needs a significant increase to account for the multiplicity of recce activities but I'm open to discussion on that.

Use of "ISR"

The article includes: "The commander uses ISR assets to confirm..."

This is the only occurrence of "ISR" in the article and its meaning is never explained. Would someone please do so. 121.98.218.165 (talk) 23:40, 16 January 2012 (UTC)Martyn

"commanders procured their ability"

This phrase reads strangely to me. Is it standard military jargon? I know it's normal to speak of the procurement of all kinds of resources such as food, beds, spare parts, troops and miscellaneous other items, but I've never heard of procuring an ability before. "Valued", surely? 213.122.5.228 (talk) 15:56, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

This and a number of articles on specific areas of reconnaisance are written in what is either some form of jargon/biz-speak or just a strange form of grammar. By all means tackle it to make more sense, though given the lack of referencing you can just purge any stray unintellible sentences. GraemeLeggett (talk) 17:09, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

What is the relation to surveillance?

It would be good if this could be treated in the introduction, and a separate section if needed.150.227.15.253 (talk) 11:38, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
