Pylon Judges.

Condolences to the relatives and friends of the deceased and injured, but this accident isn't unusual, and probably isn't worth breathlessly reporting in Wikipedia. I have personally witnessed the deaths of three aviators in front of the grandstands at Reno over the years, along with non-fatal crashes. Where is their story? Why should the 2011 accident require special attention, other than stimulating the morbid fascinations of the contributors to this Wikipedia article? — Quicksilver^{T @} 07:27, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

For the same reason we have separate coverage of the 1955 Le Mans disaster. Drivers dying at the 24 Hours of Le Mans isn't (OK, wasn't) uncommon; having their car go flying into the grandstands and kill 83 spectators is. To my knowledge, this is the first time a crash at Reno has injured or killed spectators, making it similarly notable. rdfox 76 (talk) 12:25, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

Top speeds on the course

I don't remember what year it was, but the airshow participants included Navy F-14's and National Guard F-16's. At the end of the F-14 airshow, the F-14 pilot called in on his landing approach ( of course this is all planned ahead of time - how could it not be - good theatre for the crowd, though...:) ! and said, "I have lots of gas, I'm going to run the course...."....

And he did....I'll never forget the sight of that F-14, wings all the way back, below the hilltops on the backside of the unlimited course, coming around turn 4 in full afterburner...the F-14 is a pretty big airplane....he averaged 600 mph...

But, not to be outdone, the National Guard guys said, we can do better with the F-16 (naturally this is all planned ahead of time - nothing involving the military "...just happens...", and they just happened to have an F-16 in the air, with lots of gas, that could run unlimited course...so they did...the F-16 ran the unlimited course at 660 mph....it was definitely a sight to see! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.170.126.40 (talk) 21:09, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

2023 Crash

The end?

The article vaguely hints that the races have ended, or may end next year, or may continue but move to a different location. I'm hoping somebody knows what is going on exactly and why, and can add details about this to the history section (and elsewhere on the page where appropriate, such as the first paragraph) — SkyLined (talk) 13:42, 26 December 2023 (UTC)

The 2023 races were the last to be held at Reno Stead Airport due to a variety of reasons (see this article for more details). The new location of the National Championship Air Races is still being decided, but the NCAR is expected to return in 2025. - ZLEA _T\^C 20:10, 26 December 2023 (UTC)
