Rothwell as "Rodhill" or "Rodill"

When I was a lad in Carlton over 60 years ago, we often spoke of nearby Rothwell as "Rodill" or "Rodhill". Does anyone known why? Unsigned comment by 213.122.1.71 on 17 April 2007

That partly explains why one of the high schools is called Rodillian. There's also a Stanley Rodillians Rugby Club over the motorway on the edge of Wakefield. The Hugmonster 21:35, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the info. I lived on Main Street, Carlton, near a footpath ("Tofts"?) leading down to Leadwell Lane. Domesday Book gives Rothwell as "Rodewelle".

Sugestions for improving the Rothwell article

Include information about the "Jaw-Bones" on Wood Lane, also more about the Church such as it's Saxon carved stones and the pre-Reformation "Piscina", etc. Unsigned comment by 213.122.1.71 on 17 April 2007

town centre positioning

The current positioning of this article is: latitude= 53.755262 longitude= -1.473640
