Reported death[edit]

This article had been edited to reflect that the subject had died ([1]). There are reports to that effect circulating around the internet. However, as of this writing I have not seen it mentioned in a reliable source, without which we should not make such modifications to this article. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 18:28, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Qobuz article doesn't mention where or how he died, who told them about it, who survived him etc. – things one would expect in a report of someone's death. Keep in mind what happened with the Horace Silver article a few weeks ago (i.e., turns out he was entirely alive). -- Gyrofrog (talk) 15:43, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

JazzTimes says "according to multiple reports on social media sites." That's exactly what happened with Horace Silver. I received the same information in an email yesterday, from a source I would ordinarily trust. But again, I've yet to see anything like cause of death, location, according to whom etc. (In fact JazzTimes goes on to say "The cause and place of death were not reported." They really ought to know better.) -- Gyrofrog (talk) 16:07, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've brought this up at WP:BLPN#Roy Campbell, Jr.. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 20:08, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Gyrofrog. An article published at ArtsJournal has gone 404, but is still visible in the feed as "Death of a trumpet giant", here. What is visible is that it cites Wikipedia. I can find no sources except the ones mentioned above and blogs, twitter, etc. EddieHugh (talk) 20:46, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Given the source where I heard this, I'm inclined to think the news is true. On the other hand, that source is nothing that we could use as a reliable source (and again, I've yet to see one). There may be a reason it hasn't been formally published, for example pending arrangements. (Also recall Ray Price (musician) from last month: the news stories alternated from "he died" to "no he didn't" and back, and those were sources very close to the subject). I don't see what the hurry is to not wait for a news article that has solid details. As per WP:V we need to wait for one. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 21:07, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

why also are these not reliable sources?Masterknighted (talk) 23:19, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict) Quboz doesn't mention where or how he died, who told them about it, who survived him etc. – things one would expect in a report of someone's death. JazzTimes says "according to multiple reports on social media sites." WP:USERGENERATED includes Facebook, emails and the like. I don't know why JazzTimes would rely on this (especially after what happened with Horace Silver) but Wikipedia has policies about it. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 23:24, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
