Opening to history section and original Asylum
[edit]There is a problem with the opening statement as its connection with the next paragraph is completely illogical. We start with a statement made in the 1790s by Liff's minister extolling its health benefits and then get the statement "Accordingly a facility... [was] built in Albert Street in Dundee" which opened in 1820. The problem is that Albert Street is not in Liff and the asylum did not move there until the 1870s. Thus the 1790s statement is completely irrelevant to the original asylum and it is doubtful that a statement made in the 1790s has any relevance to the asylum moving there in the 1870s-80s. The secondary issue is that the 1790s Liff Parish was a much bigger area than the village of Liff and its surrounds, incorporating areas that would become part of Dundee and were already more urban by the 1870s, so there is no guarantee that the area being referred to was actually near where the asylum was built or related to the conditions at that time. I also would note the section on the first asylum in Albert Street (ie that which moved out to Liff) is lacking in detail. There are several histories of Dundee and online sources which give it coverage, so this can be addressed, and I will try to rectify it when I get an opportunity to do so. - Hi - I follow your logic and would have no problem if you want to remove the Liff minister's statement completely. Some of the early part of this article was transferred from the article on Liff and I agree that it does not fit together very well. Dormskirk (talk) 00:24, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks Dormskirk. I will hopefully get time to dig out some stuff to add this week about the original asylum and see how it stands then. Dunarc (talk) 21:15, 17 January 2021 (UTC)
- I have reworked the early history of the hospital now. I think it clears things up a bit, but other people might well want to edit and add or subtract information. I am happy to discuss this if any editor wants to. Dunarc (talk) 19:57, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- Looks good. Dormskirk (talk) 22:04, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

Created Dundee Royal Lunatic Asylum as a redirect to here
[edit]I have created Dundee Royal Lunatic Asylum to redirect to this page, as there were some mentions of the older name in other articles and it certainly appears in other works, so is something someone might conceivably search for. Dunarc (talk) 23:56, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
