Wellington suburbs[edit]
@Sundayclose: I have reinstated 'born in the Wellington suburb of Strathmore Park, New Zealand' on the grounds that a 'Wellington suburb' is a suburb OF Wellington. Just as a New York precinct is a precinct OF New York. In another example, Paddington ia a London suburb; it is also a Sydney suburb. In neither instance is it a 'Paddington suburb'. Category: Suburbs of Wellington City lists all the Wellington suburbs. Chrisdevelop (talk) 23:28, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Chrisdevelop: No offense, but you seem to be having trouble understanding English. My edit, "the Strathmore Park suburb of Wellington", means that the suburb is part of Wellington, just as "the Brooklyn borough of New York City" means that Brooklyn is a part of New York City", or "the wheels of the automobile" means that the wheels are part of the automobile, or "the early hours of the day" means that the hours are part of the day. Sundayclose (talk) 23:47, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Sundayclose: I understand English, don’t worry. What kind of suburb is a Wellington suburb? Is it a suburb of Wellington? What if there are sixty-three Wellington suburbs? Chrisdevelop (talk) 00:14, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Chrisdevelop: If there are sixty-three Wellington suburbs, then there are sixty-three suburbs of Wellington. Simple English. And yes, a suburb of Wellington is a Wellington suburb. Again, simple English. "The Strathmore Park suburb of Wellington" is a Wellington suburb, or the "Brooklyn borough of New York City" is a New York City borough, or "the wheels of an automobile" are automobile wheels. But with your strained interpretation of English, "Strathmore Park suburb of Wellington" means Wellington is a suburb, which is absurd. Most English phrases can be expressed in more than one way, and all my edit did was to express it in a different (and in my opinion, better) way. When you reverted my edit, you didn't change the meaning; you simply changed it back to the previous way of saying the same thing. This is not complicated. It just requires a little flexibility in how you express things. Sundayclose (talk) 00:40, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- I just rephrased again to "Crowe was born in Strathmore Park (a suburb of Wellington), New Zealand". If you think that changes the meaning, then we have a serious problem. Sundayclose (talk) 00:46, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Sundayclose: Your patronizing and paternalistic tone is uncalled for, and not in the Wikipedia spirit of Wikipedia:Assume good faith. Your original edit was unnecessary, because as you now agree, a Wellington suburb is a suburb of Wellington, therefore the Wellington suburb of Strathmore Park is clearly suburb of Wellington known as Strathmore Park. There is no such place as a Strathmore Park suburb, because Strathmore Park is itself a suburb. Your current edit is a compromise I can live with, but it’s not better than the original text it replaces, which has been around a very long time, uncontested until now. Chrisdevelop (talk) 01:02, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Chrisdevelop: As is your tone in telling me that my edit was unnecessary, and then you continue to refuse to accept two different ways to express the same thing. You don't have to get hostile because someone points out the weakness in your argument. Most specific wording changes are unnecessary, but there is such a thing as writing style and clarity of expression. All my edit did was to express the same idea in a different (and better) way. But if you don't revert my most recent change (which also was an unnecessary change from my original edit that you refuse to accept) and you don't ping me again, then we don't have to cross paths again. Thank you for the discussion. Sundayclose (talk) 01:34, 19 May 2023 (UTC)

In order to 1) explain the use of the word "scuffle" and 2) explain how blackmail came from this, please add quote from stated source. Change...
From: In 1999, Crowe was involved in a scuffle at the Plantation Hotel in Coffs Harbour, which was caught on a security camera.[91] Two men were acquitted of using the video in an attempt to blackmail him.[92]
To: In 1999, Crowe was involved in a scuffle at the Plantation Hotel in Coffs Harbour, which was caught on a security camera."About 3am, as the video shows, the then 35-year-old actor was involved in a melee, arguing heatedly with a woman and kissing a man who tries to calm him down." [91] Two men were acquitted of using the video in an attempt to blackmail him.[92] Papermagepk (talk) 02:57, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- Not done: Adding that sentence from the source word-to-word would be a copyright infringement. Deauthorized. (talk) 20:14, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- Partly done: I agree that it is not clear why he was blackmailed over the event, so I have added further clarification. It is sufficiently different to the original text so I hope this addresses both concerns. If neither party is satisfied feel free to revert without prejudice and we will negotiate alternative wording here. Betty Logan (talk) 01:14, 22 July 2023 (UTC)
