Poles

[edit]

How many poles should he have? Usually, if a driver takes a penalty having set the fastest qualifying time, they aren't credited with pole (in F1 last year for instance). If RHR (not Dario) really gets pole for Edmonton last year, then it has to be consistent with Long Beach last year (Briscoe instead of Franchitti) and Detroit this year (Franchitti instead of Viso). Under IndyCar rules the driver that finishes first in qualifying gets credited with having won the pole. They get the pole award, the cash prize, the bonus point, and their statistics show them as having won the pole. If they incur an engine change penalty, they don't start on pole but they still get all the glory for having won it. You can see from this page at the IndyCar web site - http://www.indycar.com/Series/Izod-IndyCar-Series/Ryan-Hunter-Reay - that RHR is statistically credited for having won a pole in 2012. This rule is consistently applied to the other cases as well. 107.9.3.158 (talk) 01:21, 25 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Last name

[edit]

People will want to know how he got the strange "hyphenated" last name. Anyone know? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.227.60.9 (talk) 23:32, 25 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but there's no exciting story behind RHR's hyphen. He has British roots and you can read all about his family's particular name type here: double-barrelled name#british tradition. Coffeesweet (talk) 20:33, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
