YIPS?[edit]

-Where is the reference for this yips? And please check your grammar next time. Although I don't know if yips is being used correctly —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Darksideofarollingstone (talkcontribs) 18 January 2007.

I agree. I've added a "citation needed" template. -Phoenixrod 16:11, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why delete so much good stuff?[edit]

Who deleted a bunch of new stuff I recently posted on So's 2007 and 2008? More important: Why? These were the topics: 1. So's 2007 appearances as starter and as replacement. 2. So's use in a La Russa double switch (with excellent game example). 3. So's 2008 underutilization. 4. So's "homecoming" to Busch Stadium as a Philly.

I'd be interested to see your thinking on why these are not something a reader would like to know about So.

Thank you.63.3.13.129 (talk) 06:03, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They were deleted because the tone of the edits was in violation of WP:NPOV and because they were much too detailed for an encyclopedia article of this length. Please note that only one edit was deleted; the other was trimmed. Consider expanding the rest of the article (after reading the appropriate policies) before adding minutiae like that. Thanks! Dear Editor Vogel (German for "eagle"--got it while proofreading just before posting), thank you for the response. Some of the details I can see, and some I might disagree with. Nevertheless, it all does provide a good lesson: Type it all in a Word document first, and it'll never disappear into the ether!

1. I do know I was taking a particularly sympathetic point of view toward the subject. This would be especially the case with the term "underutilization," re So's lack of starts in 2008 wit' yer World Champion Phillies, despite his much better performance in starts than as a pinch-hitter. I did, however, point out that the Phils had numerous outfielders besides So--names the reader would probably recognize ahead of So's--which would argue against his starting frequently. I suppose it all could be expressed without stating that So's "utilization" was "under-" anything and without implying that So's bad year was therefore chiefly the fault of Charlie Manuel.

2. I know the additions provided lots of details, but it seemed like an encyclopedia article would be a good place to bring lots of them together. Me personally, I love the detail. As for the article length, well, more facts, and it's no longer "an article of this length," true. You might consider some of the content more suitable for a blog, though, even if an obviously sympathetic POV were not an issue.

3. More than one addition was deleted, though I'm counting multiple additions that went into each of the two edits. Of the four additions I mentioned in my initial query, the first was just trimmed, true. Perhaps the "double switch" bit is considered part of the first, since it immediately followed it, I think. The example did have some cheering for So's heroics (uh-oh, against your Phillies). The 2008 section does retain one line from my original "underutilization" discussion, whereas many, many lines are gone; I thought this discussion would be important to the reader, as we may have seen So's last AB in the majors, and the fan would like to see exactly what factors went into his decline. The "Busch homecoming" section is gone; important because it expressed (a second time but in a different way) the overwhelmingly good feelings toward So from the fans for whom he played for all those previous years (all but the last year--and even then the feelings remained). In this way, it was really a summary on his overall impact on the game of baseball--since he wasn't a superstar as a player, his impact was more personal or social.

Anyway, thanks again for your perspectives. I'll keep them in mind. BTW, shouldn't that be spelled "Phight on"? Congratulations on your team's World Series triumph. Hey, let's you and the Cardinals swap middle infields!63.3.13.1 (talk) 13:22, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
