Reception

[edit]

Dissident93, you provided a link to the manual of style section at WP:VG/REC, but nothing there actually supports your stance that a list of video game characters that a reputable video game journalist or publisher have considered to be among the best of all time is inappropriate for inclusion as reception prose. It's not a user generated popularity contest or self-published list. How is it any different then say, a List of video games considered the best, when the cited sources are all listicles with rankings, albeit compiled by critics? The only consensus, or very rough consensus if we could call it, from certain quarters among the editors who have participated in discussions about listicles, is that they by themselves are not usually considered significant coverage per the meaning of that term as defined under GNG because of their brevity of content, often at a single paragraph or two. In other words, we can't build articles merely out of a handful of listicles when there is nothing else of substance to summarize. This is not the case here, because the other sources cited have demonstrated the character's notability. Using the selection criteria of List of video games considered the best as an example again, a game ranking dead last on any of the cited lists does not affect it's eligibility to be listed, as long it is listed in on at least six of them. It may be a single sentence, but it's not "weightless" or worthless as reception. So I fail to see how your insistence on excluding an independent or reliable source has any basis on guideline or policy or even consensus other then your personal preference. I sort of agree with Dissident, while I do think that if a character is particularly high on a "best of" list, like being the #1 entry, it's worthy of note, just the fact that Solaire popped up in a list is not a helpful thing for typical readers to know. The PC Gamer list also doesn't really state any opinions about Solaire that aren't already obvious. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 23:40, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Solaire never says "Praise the Sun"

[edit]

I don't know why it's listed as his signature phrase, he has zero (0) dialogue where he says that. It's just a message template that's popular. SammyWhell (talk) 13:33, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
