4 fours[edit]

As far as I am aware, 4/fours are not notable, not compared to 5 fors, and not generally recorded anyway, so I have removed it for now. Any objections and it can be reinstated. SGGH speak! 01:15, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Four-fors are considered notable and often tracked in limited-overs cricket, due to the rarity of five-fors compared to first class cricket. In first class cricket only five wickets in an innings and ten wickets in a match are added to a bowler's record, it is true.
On another matter, I don't see why a citation would be needed about Broad having had the misfortune to be hit for six sixes in an over by Yuvraj Singh. As the article states, this has happened only four times ever in senior cricket, and most knowledgeable cricket lovers would be able to recall at least the four batsmen that did it off the tops of their heads, if not necessarily all four bowlers and occasions. If some sort of link to a match report is of help to sceptics, here's one:

Yuvraj Singh vs Stuart Broad : 6_6_6_6_6_6_Full-Monty[edit]

Stuart Broad was hit for six sixes in an over and in the process destroying England's 2007 Twenty20 World-Cup bid in South Africa.

Yuvraj Singh achieved cult status after the history-making Full Monty administered to Stuart Broad in September 2007. The 6-sixes off a single over from Chris Broad which fetched 36-runs for Yuvraj Singh also contributed to the fastest half-century (50 off 12 balls) in International cricket. This feat, the first in Twenty20 internationals, has never been repeated in any form of the game in international cricket against a leading bowler from any of the Test-playing nations. The over also stands as the most expensive completed over ever bowled in International-level T20 cricket. The BBC's Test Match Special had this to say about this rarest of rare occurrence : "Every so often you have to take off your England sunhat, sit back and enjoy a once-in-lifetime 'I was there' moment." The performance drew admiration from the defeated England captain, Paul Collingwood who said "The best striking I've ever seen,"

The expression Full Monty in the cricketing context refers to 6 sixes in an over

Career Stats[edit]

There is an error in the career stats, in the personal info box. Broad is listed as taking one 5-wicket haul in test cricket, but his best bowling is listed as 3/44. Not sure which one is right. Could someone correct? Thanks. Pigs Might Fly Music (talk) 13:01, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RF?[edit]

I see that the page has been edited to portray Broad as a Right arm Fast bowler, this simply isn't true, I would assume it is based on some of the express deliveries that were bowled by Broad in the recent Limited Overs games against Pakistan where cameras detected his bowling at speeds of upto 95.8MPH, however by and large Broad bowls at speeds in the mid-high 80s and is a Fast-Medium bowler and all sources still state this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.240.96.87 (talkcontribs) 00:40, 13 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Achievements etc[edit]

I removed what looked strikingly like a trivia section. Many of the achievements were already mentioned in the article, so if the intention was to provide a brief summary of Broad's career highlights the place for that is the lead, which is supposed to summarise the article (neutrally, not just include the high points). Below are the ones which aren't currently mentioned in the article but probably should be. Nev1 (talk) 00:37, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

2013–14 Ashes series[edit]

In a Ashes warm-up match at the SCG in November, Broad was accused of having two spectators ejected allegedly heckling him by saying "Keep on Walking, Johnny", a reference to him controversially standing his ground at Trent Bridge earlier in the same year, although Broad denied requesting the ejection

To reply to the edit summary, anything written in the press about Stuart Broad over the next two months is going to be "factual & relevant to Broad's 2013-14 Ashes". Not everything however is going to be notable enough for inclusion. This is one.

As it says at WP:NOTNEWS, "Even when an individual is notable, not all events they are involved in are". In this case, someone accused Broad/England of having some fans ejected, Broad/England denied it. That's it. I can't see any enduring notability. Has there been anything further to this that I'm not aware of? Jevansen (talk) 08:08, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

2015 Tri Series[edit]

A new section 2015 Tri Series has been added without explanation or sources and replaced by User:Englandcricketteam again without explanation or sources. IMO if no sources are shortly forthcoming the section should be trimmed to the uncontentious or removed altogether.SovalValtos (talk) 13:24, 13 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of text regarding Stuart Broad entered cricketing history in the lead text[edit]

It is imperative that the text relating to Broad entered cricketing history (by conceding a record-setting six sixes in a single over to Indian batsman Yuvraj Singh) appear in the lead text of this article. This is one of the singularly exceptional moments in cricketing history.

How can this be "insignificant" when if you google news articles about Stuart Broad, you can still find that in 2016 there are abundant mainstream media/papers which are referencing this epic 6_6_6_6_6_6 episode in their news articles.

Repeated attempts by trolls to white-wash and remove this text (while leaving lesser significant achievements is not constructive) and putting it out of view among the large quantities of mundane text is not just unconstructive but dishonest.61.244.57.176 (talk) 02:21, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You have this event totally out of proportion. It may have been big news some fans but for most people in cricket, it is little more than a statistical quirk - a footnote to Broad's career, not a defining event. If Yuvraj had taken 34 from that over, it would have been just the same in cricketing terms but somehow, I don't think there would be half the fuss from less knowledgeable fans. I could also mention Ross Whitely of Worcestershire recently hitting 6 sixes in an over in a T20 match - an event which went largely unnoticed, even by many Worcs fans, as they lost the game. Insofar as it is important, it is Yuvraj's achievement and belongs in his article - players careers are defined by positive achievements, not the kind of bad days which could happen to anyone and the article should reflect this - this is so in Yuvraj's article where there is no mention of him conceding 5 sixes in an over.
The real highlights of Broad's career is his test match record where he continues to climb the ranks of all time wicket takers (now 17th, heading for top 10), is former number 1 ranked, has recorded seven spells of bowling which include five wickets (unique, I suggest, for a quick bowler), three man of the match awards in Ashes-series deciding tests and, for my money, the best first day spell of bowling in test match history. This latter spell is only covered in a brief sentence, hidden away in a paragraph about the 2015 Ashes, again revealing the lack of cricketing perspective by whoever compiled this article. And for those who like trivia, he is one of only four players to record two hat-tricks in tests, one of only two in the last 100 years.
This article, in particular the intro, needs updating to reflect the nature of Broad's career as it is viewed by the cricketing world as a whole, not merely by a those fans who are focused on trivia.

Varun Aaron Bouncer[edit]

I'm surprised there seems to be no mentioned of Broad getting injured by the bouncer from Aaron in 2014.

Many say this was a pivotal moment in his career - prior to that he was a decent batsman, but afterwards he became just another tail-ender.

Is there a reason for leaving this out? Or is it there and I have missed it?

Marchino61 (talk) 10:27, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

no reason not to mention it, but it is not really true that it was a watershed moment in his batting : he'd been in decline before then: Some reddit OR. Spike 'em (talk) 11:57, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
