Someone should update the article if they find more links especially for Tata's role in all of this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.169.73.65 (talk) 15:43, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Illegal or not?

[edit]

According to the Economist article, the Kolkata High Court permitted the use of the 1894 Land Acquisition Act: "Supreme Courts in several American states have ruled that governments cannot expropriate land for private development, but Kolkata’s High Court has judged differently. What counts as a public purpose, it has noted, is a “socio-economic question” that should be left to local governments to answer."

But the article states the opposite:The law has provisions for state taking over privately held land for public purposes but not for developing private businesses. The illegality of the acquisition has been substantially conceded by the Kolkata High Court.

The source/reference given in the article is a dead link.

Should the article be corrected? Wefa (talk) 14:31, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 14 March 2021

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Moved, the move to 2008–2009 Singur farmers' protest was performed without consensus, hence the close is a "speedy revert" to Tata Nano Singur controversy. ─ The Aafī (talk) 14:04, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Adinew56 (talk) 04:24, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Don't change the headlines name, majority of the sources state that farmers protested vehemently regarding the Tata Nano project. Moreover, the supreme court of India stated land was given illegibly to the Tata Group. It is not a controversy. Keep the current name as it is.--Adinew56 (talk) 04:24, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The reasoning they provide here is original research and violates WP:COMMONNAME. They made the move recently without prior consensus and should be reverted to the former per WP:ONUS. Crimes against humanity category removal

[edit]

Crimes against humanity is a specific legal concept. In order to be included in the category, the event (s) must have been prosecuted as a crime against humanity, or at a bare minimum be described as such by most reliable sources. Most of the articles that were formerly in this category did not mention crimes against humanity at all, and the inclusion of the category was purely original research.
