Demolition

[edit]

The Birmingham mail says that the building has now been fully demolished, but only cites people on social media: "The Crooked House has been reduced to rubble according to reports on social media". This fails WP:V, but if someone can find a decent WP:RS we (obviously) need this in. MIDI (talk) 19:57, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

E&S reporting it too now but still only citing unnamed members of the public/social media users. MIDI (talk) 20:35, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Andy Street

[edit]

Do we need the quote from Andy Street? He's not even elected to represent the area where the pub stood. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:20, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The WMCA map and this BM article appear to show that the boundary of the West Midlands Combined Authority is not congruent with that of West Midlands (county) – does that mean the pub was on his turf?
Also, do you think the suitability of the quote hinges on his position, or in the content of the quote itself? I'm not too bothered about many quotes that just lament the loss of the pub; they're not particularly remarkable and those sort of statements are inevitable. AS pressuring authorities or the like is perhaps a bit different. MIDI (talk) 07:32, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you zoom in to the former map, you can see that the site of the pub is outside the WMCA area. Street has as no more influence there than I do. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 10:49, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Fair point re: maps – I could've sworn that I zoomed in to check, but there you go! Regarding quotes, it does seem like we give more weight to neighbouring authorities than we do the actual council whose area this was in. The Andy Street tweet is kinda superseded now any way (given that it referred to circumstances after the fire but before the demolition). I've reworded/reordered that section a bit – thoughts? MIDI (talk) 19:43, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Street is grandstanding, but the pub is/was barely over the Staffordshire border, and there's undoubtedly lots of concern about its fate in the WM area. It's always been considered a Black Country pub rather than being a rural Staffordshire pub. The WM/Staffs boundaries drawn in 1974 were fairly arbitrary in this area. --Ef80 (talk) 18:07, 11 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Tilling Public House

[edit]

The be clear, are there not a few questions about this event that could be addressed in the article? For is it correct that the heavy plant was on site - ahead of mud being dumped on the road? Why was the road blocked? And where attempts make to list the buildings - just days before the fire? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.151.2.124 (talkcontribs)

Wikipedia is not an investigatory agency, and has an explicit no original research policy; Wikipedia can only report information that is published by reliable sources, and where there is any question of conflict between sources, use its neutral point of view policy to reflect this. In particular, we try to avoid the speculative drawing of conclusions from observed facts. Real investigatory agencies are clearly taking a look at this right now, watched closely by journalists. When more information is available, it will no doubt make its way into the article.

You can find out more about this, and many other topics, in WP:PILLARS, and you are welcome to become a Wikipedia editor and edit the article yourself, following the policies given above. — The Anome (talk) 08:34, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent and very carefully written op-ed piece by Marina Hyde in today's Graun: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/aug/11/crooked-house-burnt-out-pub-historic-landmark I agree we need to be careful though. --Ef80 (talk) 17:21, 11 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I've just clicked on the link to the pub, and it no-longer exists. Unfortunately, I am not clever enough to work out how to fix it. Sorry Martin Windcheetah (talk) 17:16, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
