Closing date?
[edit]Since this bridge is officially closed (at least for the time being), I wonder if the infobox should include a closing date as well? 23skidoo 11:51, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
I think it is a toss up. It is closed to cars but open to people on foot and bicycles. --M@sk 18:37, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
The bridge is open now. I think the page should be corrected though because NO ONE knows it's called Traffic Bridge. I found out by accident from the boyfriend. Unless you follow local politics you won't know that. Anyone I've ever talked to just calls it "Victoria Bridge" as it's on Victoria Avenue.
I've always known it as the traffic bridge and as Victoria bridge, but then I'm old...this page should be moved to Traffic Bridge (Saskatoon) now that the name is officially changed, but I'm a Wikinewbie and messed the move up. Sigh.Mr Death 01:22, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
The article should unquestionably be titled "Traffic Bridge". If I could figure out how to change it I would. The name "Victoria Bridge" is a complete misnomer; use of it only serves to confuse people. (Although it's true that anyone can call it anything they want. I personally refer to it as the Joni Mitchell Memorial Bridge.) To the poster above: it's not on Victoria Avenue, it connects to it. When was the last time you crossed the 25th Street Bridge? Or the 42nd Street Bridge? The Broadway Bridge is only called that because it was formally named by City Council and christened with that name when officially opened. ... Cheers... - This article definitely needs to be renamed "Traffic Bridge (Saskatoon)". I would do it myself, but there's already an existing page with a redirect on it. I'm not sure how to remove it so this article can be moved. Drm310 16:20, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Pedestrian walkway
[edit]The article states that the pedestrian walkway was added "a few years after [the bridge] opened", yet it's clearly visible on the left in the "1907" picture of the bridge. Either the photo is misdated or the article is incorrect; anybody know which? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mr Death (talk • contribs) 08:18, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
I found a source which states that the walkway was added in 1908, the year after the bridge opened. Perhaps the photo is misdated by a year or so. --Drm310 (talk) 19:28, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
Split proposal
[edit]- The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
- The result of this discussion was to not split. -M.Nelson (talk) 23:28, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
Someone has posted a Split proposal - but didn't start a discussion thread - suggesting separate articles be created for the original Traffic Bridge and its replacement. I oppose the split; the bridge name (for now) is not changing, and the replacement bridge is physically identical to the original except for its width and some other bits and pieces. If the new bridge had a different name or was physically distinct from the original, I could see it. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense to split the articles. 136.159.160.8 (talk) 21:29, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
Traffic impact on 2010 closure
[edit]Although the article cites a media report fearing about traffic impacts in leaving the bridge closed, anecdotally, it appears the traffic Armageddon that was feared did not occur - at least not when the other 3 downtown bridges (Buckwold, Broadway, University) were all open and not closed for maintenance or other issues. As I say, this is anecdotal, so a source would be needed. Was there a followup news report about traffic impacts? The crossing as unavailable for 8 years and the impression I got was, after an initial period of adjustment, people made do. It might be worth seeing if there was any media coverage regarding the impact of the closure on the businesses along Victoria Avenue (there are a few) that were impacted by the loss of traffic to and from the bridge, and perhaps access to Nutana Collegiate. Just thoughts. 23skidoo (talk) 17:53, 11 March 2022 (UTC)
