USS CHICAGO SSN 721

On the article USS CHICAGO SSN 721 , IT IS STATED THAT THIS IS THE FOURTH (4th) SHIP WITH THAT NAME. THAT IS NOT RIGHT. THERE ARE FIVE (5) OF THEM:

  • USS CHICAGO CA 14 DEC 5,1889 TO 8 AUG 1921 (SUNK)
  • USS CHICAGO CA 29 APRIL 10,1930 TO 30 JAN 1943 (SUNK)
  • USS CHICAGO CA 136 AUG 20,1944 TO 6 JUNE 1947 (RECLASSIFED NOV 1,1958
  • USS CHICAGO CG 11 MAY 1,1964 TO JAN 31,1984
  • USS CHICAGO SSN 721 OCT 13,1984 STILL SERVING THIS GREAT COUNTRY...

CA-136 and CG-11 are the same hull and considered the 3rd USS Chicago, so there have only been 4. See Chicago III, the US Navy's Dictionary of American Fighting ships, by the US Navy which discusses the 3rd USS Chicago CA 136 / CG 11.
