Date of first game?[edit]

The "Staffordshire Sentinel" newspaper dated Monday 25th March 1878 suggests that the first match at the venue may actually have been a few days earlier on Saturday 23rd March 1878, and was a (North) Staffordshire Challenge Cup final, not a friendly, which Stoke won 1-0 against Talke Rangers.
