Vijay in 3 idiots remake

Vijay is going to act in the remake of 3 idiots Source: http://sify.com/movies/fullstory.php?id=14935448&cid=2363 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Saravanan247 (talkcontribs) 21:47, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Speculations doesn't qualify to be on an encyclopaedia. Will be added once it's confirmed. -BiLLa- talk 03:47, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

C.Joseph Vijay is the correct name and he has to called as Vijay by which you know him and he can never be called as Joseph Vijay Chandrasekar as Chandrasekar is his father name.

Tamils living in Tamil Nadu do not have any surnames or any family name, and they only have their own name. Father's name - first name is abbrevated - in this case Chandrasekar as 'C' and is used infront of the person's name and this abbrevated father's name is called INITIAL.

I have done a valid and senseful change and hence I request anyone who challenge this change to first discuss it here and then do the required changes BrownyCat (talk) 22:38, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Um, no, you can't simply assume that's how his name would be formatted. There's nothing wrong with writing out his full name so do not change his name to C. Joseph Vijay. He was never ever credited that way. Eelam StyleZ (talk) 15:26, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

There are many commercial links used as reference in this article. Ilayathalapathyonline.com and actorvijay.net are examples. Why these commercial links should not be removed as they do not meet the standards of wikiAkilash (talk) 07:21, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

Does websites owned by Vijay's fans has any authentic value for use in wiki? For e.g. ilayathalapathyonline.com and actorvijay.net. I am removing those references as I consider they are not authentic for use in wiki. Discuss here before adding them again. Akilash (talk) 01:57, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Proper information and News is added to these sites.Though they do support Vijay in their news, they are willing to accept his falied films and add nuetral sources like Indiaglitz,TOI,Sify etc unlike Ajith fansites where the site onwer and his confidants use Photoshop to post false box office records increasing number of days run.

Raghavan(Talk) 02:10, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Actually, using fansites is discouraged in Wikipedia. Many of them are considered spam links (especially the ones owned by Galatta.com). They are highly biased and fails WP:NPOV. Make sure you don't use a fan site when editing other actors' articles! EelamStyleZ (talk) 15:33, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Vijay's early life

Our article claims that Vijay is an old student of SBOA matriculation HSS school, and this is referenced to the itvfc site. I cannot find another site which backs up this claim. I happen to be a current student of SBOA MHSS, and I have serious doubts about this. Unfortunately, I could not find any other site which suggested otherwise; although a lot of other sites confirm that he attended Loyola. Could anyone please find a more reliable source for this? --Joel K R (talk) 15:41, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Vijay (actor)Joseph Vijay – This is his name and it will be a unique article name also, ujst like Ajith Kumar.
Anish Viswa 14:45, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

I don't think it's needed. It's good to have screen names. --Commander (Ping Me) 15:06, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
Please read the Wiki article name guideline. Shivaji Rao Gaikwad will not fit the guideline. But moving Suriya (actor) to Suriya Sivakumar will be better common name and unique identifier.
Anish Viswa 04:22, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
I pointed out "Shivaji Rao Gaikwad" only as an example to make you clear. Sivakumar is not a family name. That's his father's name and Tamils don't affix father's name at the end. Saravanan is the actual name of Suriya. I suggest you better read Naming conventions. --Commander (Ping Me) 04:32, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
  • Oppose per WP:UCN. Editors of Wikipedia has unanimously agreed that common names be used as opposed to official names. I did some searching and found that Joseph Vijay is known by the mononym Vijay, therefore this page does not need to be moved per Wikipedia policy. Yours faithfully, Kotakkasut. 13:16, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

Listing "commercially successful films" in the lead

Consider the following line in the lead paragraph:

[...] including commercially successful films and some of those are Poove Unakkaga (1996), Kadhalukku Mariyadhai (1997), Thulladha Manamum Thullum (1999), Kushi (2000), Priyamaanavale (2000), Ghilli (2004), Pokkiri (2007).

Please refrain from adding more films to this line. We cannot devise a list of "commercially successful" films as it can constitute to bias, since there is a dearth of reliable sources for information on Vijay, making such things hard to be verifiable. Different editors have different ideas in how successful Vijay's films are. If we consider the latest release Velayudham as a commercially successful film for Vijay because it was a higher grosser than Pokkiri or Ghilli, then chances are we will have to add Nanban, Thuppakki and the upcoming Gautham Menon film to the list as they are more likely to have larger box-office outcomes, considering those films' high-profile alone. This is just going to make this list grow bigger and bigger. Vijay is a large-enough star who has over 50 films to his credit and simply listing a few of his films cannot generate a clear enough picture of his diverse career. I suggest that the entire lead should be rewritten in a way that should eliminate any instances of listing "commercially-successful" films. Until then, please do not include films like Kaavalan, Velayudham or any other future film of Vijay to that line in the lead. EelamStyleZ (talk) 16:40, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)

VIJAY vs AJITH vs SURYA

It is no secret that Thala Ajith Kumar and Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay are long-time rivals, with Surya having entered the clash as well. There are many reliable sources which state their rivalry, but why shouldnt i add them? please, i promise to make them look as encyclopediac as possible. Kailash29792 (talk) 16:10, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi Kailash.I just want to tell one proper reason. The fact of rivalry between Vijay,Ajith & Surya is itself not encyclopedic. Then how do you expect it to add to an article of encyclopedic nature. No offence but if you want to do so find some fan forum or start a facebook/orkut community.Don't try to spoil the neutral nature of this article about a humble actor.I suggest you to go through this

Merge

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
The result of this discussion was to merge the article. ♛♚★Vaibhav Jain★♚♛ Talk Email 15:09, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

List of awards and nominations received by Vijay should be merged into the main article, it's neither extensively long nor well written or properly sourced. Also includes remarks like "In a survey of star network as Top 5 stars of masses in India Vijay is listed in the 4th position". Is that a special honour? Johannes003 (talk) 12:13, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

No, imo the list reached a critical level in length--Dravidianhero (talk) 18:26, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
  • Merge – Given the size of both the articles, it's a serious case of content forking. He has received very few notable awards so far in his career. So creating a separate page for awards isn't really necessary at this stage. Vensatry (Ping me) 20:12, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
  • Merge It's not necessary to have a separate article for an actor who has received quite few awards. Torreslfchero (talk) 20:51, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
  • No It is not a matter whether he received notable awards or not but the no. of awards he received is the matter. No.of awards received by Vijay is more or less equal to surya and Vikram itself -- Sharu wikki 08:40, 16 February 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sharu wikki (talkcontribs)
  • Merge - a lot of these awards are highly trivial and aren't significant enough to be listed in tables. Vijay's list of awards don't compare to other actors who are more worth of a separate page of awards. EelamStyleZ talk 16:36, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
Vensantry asked me to weigh in here, and it's clear that the consensus is Merge. So, you can go ahead and do so—there are no administrative tools needed for such an action. Just bring over whatever you think is notable; in each edit summary that you do so, write "Merged from List of awards and nominations received by Vijay" in the edit summary. Be careful that you do not omit this edit summary, as it's necessary to preserve our licensing agreements. Then, when you're done, just turn the list article into a redirect to the relevant section in this article. There's some templates you should then add to the top of this and that article's talk page; you can find them at Help:Merging. Qwyrxian (talk) 02:17, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

I think it's appropriate that the words innovative promotions be removed from the original Wikipedia article because:

  • It makes the statement look more like a possible advertisement.
  • The cited reference (#30) DOES NOT claim anywhere that Tata Docomo comes up with 'innovative promotions'.

If he were very high ranked year after year and this was commented on secondary reliable sources, would agree with you, but ranking on a regional top celebrity list doesn't seem very important compared to the other more relevant awards and information already on his page. As for the google trends, that is original research, and moreover, literally compares him to 1 other actor. Am against inclusion of that. Cannolis (talk) 05:51, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

One of the sections in this page has some irrelevant text. Specifically "muthukaruppan ranjith pastry chef" at the end of the below paragraph.

Please remove it.

2007–2010

In late 2007, Vijay starred in the roles as both the antagonist and protagonist. The film was only a moderate success at the boxofice, despite the initial hype and expectations. In 2008, he starred in the action film Kuruvi, again under Dharani's direction, and produced by Red Giant Movies. The year 2009 commenced with the action film Villu, in which Vijay teamed up with Prabhu Deva (from Pokkiri). His next film Vettaikaaran, directed by Babu Sivan and produced by AVM Productions and distributed by Sun Pictures became one of the highest grossing Tamil film of 2009. In 2010, he acted in his 50th film, Sura, also distributed by Sun Pictures.'''muthukaruppan ranjith pastry chef'''

Cruft magnet

To the regular editors of this article, you might consider cutting the following from the lead:

He went on to act in other commercially successful films such as Thulladha Manamum Thullum (1999), Kushi (2000), Friends (2001), Thirumalai (2003), Ghilli (2004), Thirupaachi (2005), Sachin (2005), Sivakasi (2005), Pokkiri (2007), Vettaikaran (2009), Velayutham (2011), Nanban (2012), Thuppakki (2012), Jilla (2014), Kaththi (2014) and Theri (2016), which rank among the highest-grossing Tamil films.

This is an absolute cruft magnet, i.e. it only invites the addition of more and more films. It's an indiscriminate list. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 21:30, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

Some of this stuff is simply embarrassing and much seems to have been added by Bothiman recently.
  • "Bollywood Presence & Excellence"? Really? Drool, drool.
  • He changes "He was the highest ranked among actors from Tamil cinema" to "He was the highest ranked among actors from Indian cinema", when the source puts Vijay at #61 on their Celebrity 100 list. Obviously #61 is not "the highest ranked" when there are tons of actors above him on the list. I don't know if that's straight up promotion or incompetence, but ultimately it is grossly misleading.
Some of the content is just bizarre:
  • "Actor Mahesh babu in an interview expressed his interest working with Vijay as he feels it will be comfortable working with him." What on earth does that mean, and why do we care about someone being "comfortable" working with an actor or being interested in working with him?
  • "Six movies of Vijay that include Mersal have breached 100-crore club at the worldwide box office. Thus making him the king of 100-crore club than stars like Rajinikanth in Tamil films." Well that's certainly a puffery-laden mouthful, Bothiman.
  • And here's something completely incoherent: "Vijay's most both critics review and successful films include:"
  • In this edit, Bothiman basically steals puffery from here. "The performance of Mersal at the worldwide box office has reinstated Vijay's position as the next big star of Kollywood. The gigantic success of the film has shown that Ilayathalapathy is a consistent performer than stars like Rajinikanth, Ajith and Suriya in Tamil films." That will need to be revdel-ed.
Even mundane facts are puffed up or in improper tone (not necessarily by Bothiman):
  • "His father S. A. Chandrasekhar is a popular Tamil film director and his mother Shoba Chandrasekhar is a reputed playback singer". (Emphasis mine)
  • "He also had a craze for cars".
  • "The University strongly felt that Vijay has contributed immensely".
  • "...prestigious Doctorate."
  • "Thuppakki, directed by A. R. Murugadoss and produced by S. Dhanu, was released on Diwali 2012 to mostly positive reviews." Supported by this useless reference. I'm sure once upon a time, that source supported a statement about Thuppakki's production. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:25, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
  • "His next film Thalaivaa, directed by A. L. Vijay, was released on 9 August 2013 worldwide to positive reviews from critics and audience." Supported by a single 3-star review.
  • "His next film Jilla, co-starring Kajal Aggarwal and Mohanlal, and directed by R. T. Neason, was released on a Pongal weekend in 2014 to positive reviews from critics and audience and ended up as box office hit due to the popularity of both stars." Is any of that supported by the three references behind it? This one tells readers that the film in question is going to start filming four months down the road. Useless reference. This one 404s, but would otherwise be useless because "inreporter.com" is not a mainstream, reputable source. The third, this, does actually attribute the good financial performance of the film to its stars, but "box office hit" is subjective fluff, and there's nothing that supports "positive reviews from critics and audience".
There are numerous examples like this, and the bottom line is that someone is going to have to sift through this crap with a fine-tooth comb. It would be nice if we could get some of the Indian film GA folks to work on this. They're usually good about removing problematic content. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:25, 16 November 2017 (UTC)

Honorary doctorate

@Starunique: I've removed from the lead the content about the subject's honorary doctorate that you added here. This is fluffy content that only serves to promote the subject. He is not notable for having an honorary doctorate, he's notable for being an actor. The content still exists in the Philanthropy section of the article. Note that this article has long been the subject of drooling puffery, so it's important that we swing the pendulum back to center, being sure we're not doing anything to place Vijay on a pedestal. Thank you. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:16, 25 November 2017 (UTC)

Perhaps you might consider looking at a few Featured Articles, which represent the highest quality of Wikipedia article? This might help shape your choices a bit. Deepika Padukone, Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor might be some examples. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:33, 26 November 2017 (UTC)

Image

I don't have a preference, but the current image in the article, File:Vijay 2017.jpg is too dark. The point of an image in the infobox is to clearly identify the subject, which we're not achieving with an underexposed shot. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 23:46, 2 December 2017 (UTC)

Its one of its kind, not a underexposed shot its all because of natural black Hue in back ground and he's wearing a black shirt as well--Starunique (talk) 09:43, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Let's watch the fanclub stuff, please

Somewhere in these edits we've introduced a lot of confusing content that just comes off as fanclub promotion of Vijay. We've included content about some unspecified unscientific survey about Vijay's alleged political potential? Why? What's the point of this? Is he running for office? What magazine and/or 24/7 news channel ran this? Indiaglitz, #Guidelines on sources|poor source that it is (which is why we shouldn't be using them) doesn't specify. It also sounds like they just arbitrarily picked three actors and asked, "who should ___ political party look out for?" Were any actual politicians in the survey? Without context, the information reads as a useless, fluffy click-bait nonsense. It should be removed.

There is also content that attempts, in a very convoluted way, to suggest that Vijay's films were more interesting to Hindi-speaking audiences than the Hindi film Theri. For starters, the sources being used are rather weak as blogs, but even if we assumed that Television Post was reporting BARC figures accurately, how do we know that it was Vijay's attractiveness as an actor that led to the increase in ratings? Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't, but what we need is someone saying "Every time we air a Vijay film, regardless of time slot or ___ criteria, the ratings go up. He's popular to Hindi audiences." Without that, it's just meaningless context-less figures that look like fan promotion of Vijay. Also, what biographical articles include this sort of detail. Do we care about the ratings spread in our Tom Cruise article? The content should be removed as fluff.

And, what variety of sources call Puli a "fairy tale fantasy comedy film"? Keep genres simple. Pick one. "Fairy tale fantasy" is redundant anyway. Same with Bairavaa, which is being called an "action masala". If a masala film is one that mixes action, comedy, romance or other elements, then "masala" should be sufficient. "Action masala" is redundant.

Lastly, some of the changes introduced weird language like "his first most successful film as lead actor was Poove Unakkaga", uh, but that doesn't make any sense, because the first film where he was the lead actor, even if it was a flop, would have been "his first most successful film as lead actor". Presumably we mean "his first successful film as lead actor..." I assume "which became his first most successful venture" should be "which became his first successful venture". @Starunique: you should probably fix these. Hi I am a die hard fan of Vijay Sir from USA and I am maintaining a twitter page and facebook page for Thalapathy USA Fan. There is a spelling mistake in Ilayathalapathy spelled as Illayathalapathy. Jaiganeshn (talk) 14:43, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Both spellings seem to be used throughout the article, and both spellings appear to be used in the article's sources. So I'm not inclined to believe either spelling is correct without consensus or better sourcing. —KuyaBriBriTalk 15:29, 2 November 2017 (UTC)

Patronym, or not patronym?

The top of the article currently reads: "In this Indian name, the name Chandrasekhar is a patronymic, not a family name, and the person should be referred to by the given name, Vijay." Can someone please clarify this? Because we currently indicate that his parents are S. A. Chandrasekhar (father) and Shoba Chandrasekhar (mother). If Chandrasekhar is a patronym, why does Mom have this name? We can still refer to him as Vijay in the article, the same way we refer to Madonna or Cher, but the patronym thing seems dubious to me. Comments? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:53, 24 November 2017 (UTC)

Even I think that chandrasekhar part is not right is actual name is just joseph vijay and surname is chandrasekhar not his name he should be changed. he should be referred as joseph vijay only.--Starunique (talk) 14:24, 27 November 2017 (UTC)

@Starunique: Your response doesn't make sense to me. If his surname is Chandrasekhar, as one might deduce by the fact this mother's last name is Chandrasekhar, (making it unlikely that it is a patronym) why would we not include his full name? Even according to the source you included in this edit, the reference is making a point of clarifying what Vijay's full name is. Either his name is Chandrasekhar Joseph Vijay, or it's Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar per this reference. Take your pick. But removing the content entirely is not an option whether you and the guy below me think so or not. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:18, 25 December 2017 (UTC)

Thalapathy doesn't belong in the other_names parameter of the infobox, if that's what you're requesting. That parameter is not for media/fan nicknames. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 22:33, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

@Cyphoidbomb bro i understood what this guy is asking. when he searches for thalapathy in google search engine actor rajnikanth's thalapathi movie wiki page is appearing instead of actor vijay wiki page and he wants you guys to fix this issue. Starunique (talk) 15:32, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

If he wants to change something about Google, he should contact Google. We don't have any control over how Google returns search results, and the infobox isn't to be used as an SEO tool. Further, there might be a legitimate reason why Google is returning Rajinikanth's film instead of Vijay's Wikipedia article, i.e. that more people who search for Thalapathy are actually interested in the Rajinikanth film. Who are we to question Google? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:22, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

@Cyphoidbomb yeah I just checked now it is returning 1990's old rajni's thalapathi wiki page first and then the actor vijay wiki page. @Thangs Thangasamy google has to deal with this issue of yours Starunique (talk) 17:31, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

Remove "Chandrasekhar"

Please remove "Chandrasekhar" as patronymic name & in "Born name" from this page. Please just simply leave it as "Joseph Vijay" Thangs Thangasamy (talk) 18:36, 23 December 2017 (UTC)

@Thangs Thangasamy done changed it thank you. you are right his actual name is just joseph vijay and found a reliable source stating that https://www.outlookindia.com/website/story/mersal-actor-vijay-breaks-silence-issues-statement-using-full-name/303491 Starunique (talk) 12:32, 24 December 2017 (UTC)

@Starunique: That is absolutely not what the source says. Selective interpretation. "C. Joseph Vijay" obviously means something other than "Joseph Vijay". See also The News Minute, "Further, Vijay hasn't really changed his name - born Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar, he has gone with the mononym 'Vijay'." Or Times of India, "Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar (Vijay)". Or Behindwoods, "It must be noted that Vijay was born as Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar...". Or Livemint "Telugu action drama Agent Bhairava, starring Keerthy Suresh and Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar..." Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:32, 25 December 2017 (UTC)

@Cyphoidbomb i find the chandrasekhar part totally not right. its his father name how could that be included in his full name otherwise it can be mentioned as Joseph Vijay.C but we dont do that in wikipedia mentioning the initials. thats why i kept it as just joseph vijay.Starunique (talk) 09:58, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

@Cyphoidbomb As per your sources they could have retrieved the data from our wiki page and posted it as his full name but as per my source during his film mersal issue he himself released a press note stating his actual name is C.Joseph Vijay its better we stick on to just joseph vijay see this source http://indianexpress.com/article/entertainment/tamil/mersal-row-vijay-thanks-fans-in-note-signs-using-christian-name-4906846/ Starunique (talk) 10:01, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

@Starunique: Again, your response doesn't help to clarify the matter. The "C" stands for something. Are you suggesting that this guy doesn't have a surname? Are you suggesting that "C." Is his first name? And it's entirely speculative that the myriad of reliable sources used Wikipedia as the source for the information. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:00, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

@Cyphoidbomb "C" stands for chandrasekhar his father name and it his intial as simple as that and they use father name as their surnameStarunique (talk) 17:24, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

@Starunique: Then I'd appreciate clarification on why Vijay's mother is named Shoba Chandrasekhar. Was her father's name Chandrasekhar too? Or is it customary for a wife to take her husband's first name? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 22:44, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

@Cyphoidbomb women in india follow a tradition that after getting married include their husband name as surname and they remove their father's name. Starunique (talk) 08:51, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

I think you are mistaken about Wikipedia not mentioning initials. The MOS guideline MOS:FULLNAME suggests that full name be used on first mention, that that the initials may be used if the full name is not known per WP:INITS. But since it is known that C stands for Chandrasekhar, then the point is moot, and the whole name should be given even if it is not commonly used. Similarly Template:Infobox person do say that initial should be added. Note however that is says middle initial because middle initial is common in the West, if you wish to establish a different MOS for Indian names, perhaps you can proposed at the talk page for Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Indic). Hzh (talk) 11:23, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
As it happens, I also found here Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Malaysia-related articles#Indian names that the Tamils use patronymics, therefore the father's name should be included in the first mention of his name. If the father's name or initial is used, it can be placed before or after the first name (see Indian family names). Hzh (talk) 11:34, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

@Hzh "chandrasekhar" is not a patronynm vijay hasnt used his name as "chandrasekhar vijay" or viceversa nowhere iam sure about it. see this link how he uses his name in his official letter head. https://thereel.scroll.in/855389/actor-vijay-thanks-fans-and-the-film-industry-for-standing-by-mersal . hope this satisfies youStarunique (talk) 11:45, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you are trying to argue. The official letter uses the initial C, therefore he does use his father's name as initial as indicated in Indian family names#Tamil names. It is in any case irrelevant what the actor uses now as far as Wikipedia is concerned, for the first mention of the name, the full name (or the initial) should be used according to the guidelines. As far as I can tell, you are not arguing based on any Wikipedia guideline (I'm also not Cyphoidbomb.) Hzh (talk) 11:59, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

@Hzh oops new person. wish you a merry xmas and happy new year. ok then what there is to argue. the living person himself as revealed his full name as c.joseph vijay but as per wiki rules if you want add his father name chandrasekhar you can do so. no issues Starunique (talk) 12:17, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

@Hzh As far as I know one more thing tamil people have started using their mother names also as initials nowadays. so I feel if you abbreviate the initials his original full name will disappear and this article will become not appropriate for western country readers and also we have to use the name Chandrasekhar for his wife shoba as well. it leads to confusion for readers as if shoba's father name is also Chandrasekhar. but actually it is not. so i feel it is better we leave it as it is as this article will be read by readers from different countries who will find it difficult to make out.Starunique (talk) 12:57, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

As far as Wikipedia goes, it depends on what the correct name is. I would suggest at the least use the initial C given the person uses it himself (therefore we are certain that this is correct, so the first sentence should start with "C. Joseph Vijay"), and "Joseph Vijay Chandrasekha" may be used if there is confirmation in a reliable source that is officially his birth name. It does not matter what other names the person might use (although other names may be mentioned in the text), we are only interested in the official name. Readers aren't likely to get confused because that is the convention used by Wikipedia - the main article title is the commonly known name, and the first mention of the actual name is the full name, see for example, Eminem, Rihanna, etc. (no one get confused by who Robyn Rihanna Fenty might be, because the article title already tells us who that person is.) Hzh (talk) 13:12, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

@Hzh instead of abbreviating the initial C on mere speculation as Chandrasekhar what if it stands for his birth place Chennai tamil people also use the place were they were born also as initials not only that what if its some other traditional family name. I think instead of abbreviating the "C" we can keep it as C.Joseph Vijay as mentioned in his official letter head. Starunique (talk) 13:26, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

None of the sources cited above have called him Chennai Joseph Vijay. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:24, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

@Cyphoidbombafter ruling it out so it can be either chandrasekhar or someother traditional family name. ok then can we change it to C.Joseph Vijay Starunique (talk) 18:09, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

@Starunique: As noted at the top of the discussion: The News Minute: "Further, Vijay hasn't really changed his name - born Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar, he has gone with the mononym 'Vijay'." he is the hero for the tamil industry Vijay at the age of ten marked his childhood cinematic debut in drama Vetri (1984), he continued to perform as child artist in films till Ithu Engal Neethi (1988), directed by his father S. A. Chandrasekhar. He then featured in the film Naalaya Theerpu (1992) in lead role at the age of eighteen also directed by his father, but he received his breakthrough in the film Poove Unakkaga (1996), which was directed by Vikraman.[11][12] To date, he has acted in 61 movies as a lead actor and has won 50 awards including notable three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, one Cosmopolitan Award, one Indiatoday Award, one SIIMA Award, eight Vijay Awards, three Edison Awards, two Vikatan Awards and was nominated for one National Award UK.[13]

Calm down. There's no need to post the exact same comment 4 times. Also there is no correlation between good sourcing and neutral point of view; for example see WP:PEACOCK. • Can someone care to correct this? KollyLeaks (talk) 20:45, 18 December 2018 (UTC)
@KollyLeaks: There are other sources that make this assertion, but we can't use primary sources like birth certificates, per WP:BLPPRIMARY. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:37, 19 December 2018 (UTC)

Vijay and Shahrukh khan have clashed with their respective films five times in a row at the worldwide box office. sources below https://www.bollywoodlife.com/news-gossip/theri-fan-kaththi-happy-new-year-5-times-vijay-locked-horns-with-shah-rukh-khan/ https://www.ibtimes.co.in/srks-happy-new-year-clash-vijays-kaththi-box-office-606652 https://www.ibtimes.co.in/box-office-clash-shah-rukh-khan039s-039chennai-express039-to-take-on-vijay039s-039thalaivaa039-484743 Dweryhj (talk) 15:35, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

Firstly, none of those references say that this has happened "five times in a row" as you claim. Secondly, why do we care? What's so noteworthy about two popular movie actors releasing films at the same time? That seems like it would be extraordinarily commonplace, considering there are only 52 weeks in a year and some release dates, like Diwali, are more popular than others. In western cinema, the two most popular times to release films are summer and at Christmas. It would not be unusual for major celebrities to have films released at these times and it would also be commonplace for these releases to "clash" with other actors' releases. This sort of arbitrary "record" just seems like fanboy content. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:49, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

@Cyphoidbomb (talk https://www.bollywoodlife.com/news-gossip/theri-fan-kaththi-happy-new-year-5-times-vijay-locked-horns-with-shah-rukh-khan/ this source says their films clashed five times at the worldwide box office and to your kind notice global indian actor shahrukh khan lost to Vijay consecutive 5 times. none of the big indian actors have clashed five times in a row at the worldwide box office. so its like once in a blue moon event so it is more appropriate to mention in the article. many thanks for replying. Dweryhj (talk) 16:05, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

Between 2011 and 2016 when the Bollywoodlife article was written, Vijay appeared in 10 films. In the same time period, Khan appeared in at least a dozen films. So I don't know where you're getting this "in a row" claim, other than that it is fabricated. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:46, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

@Cyphoidbomb thanks once again for replying you could use this much reliable sify source http://www.sify.com/movies/vijay-to-clash-with-srk-for-fifth-time-news-tamil-qdblrJeehcaec.html you could mention just "5 times" instead of "5 times in a row". it was nice texting you Dweryhj (talk) 17:24, 11 April 2019 (UTC)

His actual Name is "Chandrasekhar Joseph Vijay" as given in the citations and infobox and what is the point of "C.Joseph Vijay". People should know his full name in a wikipedia article. Please change his name in the first line to "Chandrasekhar Joseph Vijay". Roombaoomba (talk) 15:34, 8 October 2019 (UTC)

Not done: From my reading of the sources, "C. Joseph Vijay" is correct. Now, the C almost certainly does stand for Chandrasekhar, but we defer to article subjects when it comes to their own names. Sceptre (talk) 21:38, 8 October 2019 (UTC) Sceptre (talk) 21:38, 8 October 2019 (UTC)

Net worth

Hi Isaacsorry, Do you have any better reliable sources for the net-worth? Republic is not a very reliable source and the report is based on the recent Income Tax-raid controversy. I Can't find any better sources and the disclaimer section at the bottom of the article says The above information is sourced from various websites/ media reports. The website does not guarantee a 100% accuracy of the figures. So i think it is better to leave it out. - SUN EYE 1 14:46, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

Replace Indian actor as an Thamil actor and wherever thamil was written, replace it with "Thamil" as it is the correct spelling Arun Prabhu J (talk) 07:58, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

Not going to happen. Nationality is always identified in lead, and "Thamil" is not the common spelling of Tamil. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:41, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
