Too much information?

[edit]

The initial several sections contain a large amount of general volcano information, with no linkage to Canada. This general information is readily available to readers via the primary (linked) volcano articles. Also, all the Canadian regions have their own articles - e.g. Volcanism of Eastern Canada. Rather than this large article that provides detailed information covered elsewhere (and would need to be editted in multiple places), it would be more sensible for this article to be a fairly high-level summary, providing clear and structured linkage to where the details can be found. Gierszep (talk) 01:41, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have been thinking to rearrange this article. It would be better if it were just about volcanism in Canada in general than the individual features it has produced. Information about general volcanic features (e.g. volcanic fields, belts, arcs) would be better on the region articles. It would be great to bring this article to FA class. Measurement

[edit]

In the Plinian eruptions section, a reference is made to square (units) instead of to volumes. This strikes me as an error. - Denimadept (talk) 19:26, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome Entries

[edit]

Okay, so this series on Canadian volcanism is seriously one of the most impressive geology projects I've seen on Wikipedia. Is there any chance that this could happen for the United States as well? I'm no expert, so I may not be the best person for the task, but could this at least be opened up for discussion? Thanks a ton, and seriously: this entire series is incredibly well-done. ---Ryan K. 09/15/2012 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.170.14.14 (talk) 08:14, 15 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Volcanism vs. volcanology

[edit]

Should not volcanism be treated separately from volcanology? Saw this also on other pages.

Volcanism as "the phenomenon of eruption of molten rock (magma) onto the surface of the Earth" etc. and on the other hand volcanology as the Earth Science specialized in treating this phenomenon.Hornstrandir1 (talk) 19:52, 5 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

– The topic of all these articles is about volcanism rather than volcanology. Volcanism is the phenomena connected with volcanoes and volcanic activity whereas volcanology is the scientific study of volcanoes and volcanic phenomena. Volcanoguy 23:36, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No they haven't. The moves were just a poor choice for reasons mentioned above and other editors have since claimed the original titles were better. Volcanoguy 06:22, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, in that case, I support the moves. Based on the dictionary definitions of the words, this doesn't seem like it should be especially controversial. Station1 (talk) 17:55, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I support the move too.Hornstrandir1 (talk) 07:19, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ditto to support, and well spotted. ~ R.T.G 18:56, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. I haven't checked all the articles, but assuming they are all about volcanism rather than volcanology (I have no reason to doubt the proposer), I support. Nurg (talk) 02:31, 9 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
