Arrowe Country Park[edit]

  • ... that Arrowe Country Park originated from wealth earned from the slave trade?
This ref on page 5 says [1] The shape of Arrowe Country Park as we know it today really began in 1800 when the then Mayor of Liverpool, John Shaw bought the land. He had made his fortune from supplying his ships for the slave trade.
    • ALT1:... that the shape of Arrowe Country Park began in 1800 when the then Mayor of Liverpool, John Shaw, bought the land with money earned in the slave trade.
    • ALT2 ...that Arrowe Country Park was landscaped by John Ralph Shaw, a magistrate, who installed mantraps and spring-loaded shotguns to deter trespassers on his estate?
This ref [2] says There is also documentation to show that Mr Shaw placed traps around his land to catch the poachers, some of which included spring activated shot guns ! and this ref [3] says John Ralph Shaw was a magistrate and was very hard on any trespassers or poachers who were brought before him. On the Estate at Arrowe, to ensure people did not stray from the public footpath that crossed his lands, he installed ‘mantraps’ and ‘spring-loaded shotguns’ this ref on page 5 says [4] John Ralph Shaw who was responsible for landscaping the park and building Arrowe Hall in 1835.
    • ALT3 ...that Arrowe Country Park was shaped in 1800 by the Mayor of Liverpool, John Shaw, with money earned in the slave trade?

Created/expanded by Szzuk (talk). Self-nominated at 21:18, 13 August 2018 (UTC).

  • @Szzuk: You have not specified a hook. Raymie (tc) 21:35, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Overall: I favor Alt2 (see my suggested edit) because it deals directly with the park, but Alt1 is fine. Kim Post (talk) 12:56, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

What's the QPQ? I don't think you required one when you nominated it but you do now.

  • QPQ is underway. It has been ages since I looked at this and I can now see ALT0 and ALT1 are weak so I've added ALT3 that uses their source. ALT2 is improved as per your edit and is my preference. Szzuk (talk) 19:01, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
QPQ is done. Szzuk (talk) 07:35, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
  • Article is ready for promotion with ALT2 preferred, ALT3 also acceptable. QPQ was my nomination Manuel Torres. (I boldly edited the ALT3 link from "slavery" to "Atlantic slave trade"; the latter is more specific to this context.) Kim Post (talk) 21:40, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
