Cline Falls (Oregon)
[edit]... that Cline Falls is one of the highest waterfalls on the Deschutes River in Central Oregon?
Source: The Northwest Waterfall Survey says: "Cline Falls is actually one of the taller waterfalls along the Deschutes River, dropping about 20 vertical feet through several channels carved in the basalt bedrock."

- Long enough, new enough, image is valid. Nice article--thanks. Drmies (talk) 20:32, 21 April 2019 (UTC)
- Hi, I came by to promote this, but the hook seems very pedestrian to me. You have a nice article and image here; what do you think about suggesting something hookier? I thought of:

... that Cline Falls (pictured) is a serious hazard for swimmers, kayakers, river rafters, and innertube floaters on Oregon's Deschutes River?Yoninah (talk) 19:31, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

- ALT1 source is Bend Bulletin article dated 10 July 2007; it says: "State and local officials will meet next week to consider adding warning signs to a stretch of the Deschutes River near Redmond where a 17-year-old girl drowned Saturday night. Elesha Newton went over part of Cline Falls and died when floating on the river..."
- Yoninah, sure--but that source can't really verify that hook; it doesn't even mention "innertube", and it doesn't say that the fall is dangerous for kayakers etc. Plus, them putting up a sign doesn't really mean it's a real danger--as some people at DYK might argue. You could propose something like "...didn't put up warning signs until after someone drowned"--but then, we shouldn't be sensationalizing someone's death. Drmies (talk) 00:11, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
- I'm going offline for a while. @Orygun: could you suggest another hook? Yoninah (talk) 00:15, 16 May 2019 (UTC)

... that several deaths have occurred at Cline Falls (pictured) on the Deschutes River in central Oregon?Source: In addition to Elesha Newton (see source note above), front page Bulletin article on 20 July 1959 reported that Jimmie Ray Rogers, age 7, died while inner tubing at the falls. That source requires subscription to view on-line.--Orygun (talk) 03:48, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
- ALT3: ... that brown trout in the vicinity of Cline Falls (pictured) can reach 20 in (51 cm) in length and weigh as much as 8 lb (3.6 kg)? Yoninah (talk) 21:13, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
- Ok; source for 8 pound brown trout is from U.S. Forest Service web-site.--Orygun (talk) 04:13, 18 May 2019 (UTC)

- Moving back left- if anyone would know it would be Another Believer (talk · contribs), who probably has more Oregon DYKs than anyone. I don't think it's anywhere near record-setting but it's better than "DYK this is a pretty place". tedder (talk) 02:23, 19 May 2019 (UTC)
