Ehud Arye Laniado[edit]

  • ... that billionaire diamond trader Ehud Arye Laniado died during penis enlargement surgery? Source: "Billionaire Jewish diamond trader dies during penis enlargement operation. Belgian-Israeli Ehud Arye Laniado, 65, suffers heart attack after unnamed substance injected during cosmetic operation in France" ([1])

  • The article is new and seems well referenced but does not come close to the minimum length required for DYK. Surtsicna (talk) 22:45, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
That's true, it's about 300 characters short. I expect Edwardx will expand it shortly. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:55, 11 April 2019 (UTC)
@Surtsicna:, it's now long enough. Please continue review. Philafrenzy (talk) 10:55, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
Philafrenzy "it's now long enough" - trust that is a reference to the article. Edwardx (talk) 11:01, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
I don't know what you mean. Philafrenzy (talk) 11:05, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
Oh yes, it's BBC quality now. The sources are all fine, the hook is excellent and referenced, but we still need a QPQ review. Surtsicna (talk) 11:19, 12 April 2019 (UTC)
Thanks, Surtsicna. QPQ now done. Edwardx (talk) 18:16, 29 April 2019 (UTC)
The article now meets the new article, length, and policy criteria. The hook is concise and catchy. QPQ done and a questionable image removed. It's ready now! Surtsicna (talk) 09:02, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
Returned from prep per discussion at WT:DYK. Please provide a different hook, optimally about his life or notability. Yoninah (talk) 13:30, 12 May 2019 (UTC)
  • ALT1:... that billionaire diamond trader Ehud Arye Laniado was known as "the Argentinian" because he was short and "looked like a tango dancer"?
Thank you, Philafrenzy. For ALT2, I have added "€4.6 billion", along with a supporting ref in the article. Edwardx (talk) 09:30, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
  • flag Redflag-Don't proceed with this unless a relevant OTRS ticket gets resolved. Regards, WBGconverse 18:34, 17 May 2019 (UTC)
@Winged Blades of Godric: Has there been any updates on the OTRS front? It's been weeks since the last activity here. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 02:39, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
Comment. If it was the objection to the fair use image, this has since been removed. Philafrenzy (talk) 08:00, 5 June 2019 (UTC)
That was a compounding issue but not anymore. See my comments, below. WBGconverse 09:44, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
  • Reviewer needed to check the ALT hooks. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:31, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
  • Comment -- People who are authorized to represent his firm, do not seem to be very happy about the mention of penis-enlargement stuff. They claim that the subject is a private man, who hardly incurred any significant coverage prior to his death due to certain medical issues, which they deem to keep private. They also assert that much of the stuff printed in the TOIsrael obituary, the IBT trivia-page and the Jewish Chronicle piece were wrong and highlight the fact that all of them have since been taken down (we're using archived copies). That there hardly exists any other independent reliable source, which covers him significantly enough to pass our BLP guidelines, they point us to our relevant policies about BLP1E and BLPPRIVATE and request for removing his entry off our encyclopedia.
  • To be frank, there's other live RSs that cover his death-circumstances but the BLP1E issues remain, unless you can show significant coverage of him in sources predating his death.
  • If you can't, I am not yet decided as to my !vote at a potential AfD but remain firm that throwing this to the main-page is utterly unacceptable. WBGconverse 10:03, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
  • We have Alt3 which cannot be construed as negative in any sense. On notability, he managed to become a billionaire through trading diamonds. There won't be many billionaires who aren't notable, even if they operate in such a notoriously secret world. On the cause of death, personally, I have no problem removing all references to it apart from one mention at the end. With that change and Alt3 I see no problem with it being on the main page. Philafrenzy (talk) 11:06, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
  • I also cannot see any reasonable objection to ALT3. As for the cause of death, there are plenty of other sources out there that have not been taken down. I do appreciate the BLP area concerns, as he only died recently. However, he had no children and never married. I find it very hard to imagine that an AfD would lead to the article being deleted. Edwardx (talk) 12:32, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
  • How is this not a BLP1E scenario? Please show significant coverage of him across reliable sources, predating his death. WBGconverse 13:27, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
I have changed the focus towards his diamond trading and away from the cause of death which is now only mentioned at the end. This isn't an AFD and I now see no policy reason for it not to go ahead with Alt3. Philafrenzy (talk) 21:22, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
  • Marking as rejected; article is deleted. SnowFire (talk) 13:55, 18 June 2019 (UTC)
