  • ... that the Hebbel-Theater (pictured), designed by Oskar Kaufmann and opened with a play by Hebbel in 1908, was the only theatre in Berlin that survived World War II without major damage? Source: several

  • Not a review but a comment, but the hook is trying to mention too many hook facts at once. There's really one very interesting hook fact here (that it was the only theatre in Berlin to survive WW2 without major damage) and the mentions of Kaufmann and Hebbel do not add to the interest and are probably unnecessary for contextual purposes. Maybe the hook should just be something like ALT1 "... that the Hebbel-Theater (pictured) was the only theatre in Berlin that survived World War II without major damage?" That would work indeed if we had the image (but tomorrow we'll have such a short hook which - without image - will look like about a saint). I thought that educating that it's named after a playwright (whom some may not know) wasn't a bad idea, nor crediting an architect who deserves attention. We'll disagree if a hook should be only a vehicle to draw into an article, or also give information to those who don't go for a little fascination. Millions of readers click the Main page, and 900 will go to this article, - long or short. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:42, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
  • @Gerda Arendt:, there are several citation needed tags which need to be addressed. I will complete a full review tomorrow. Cheers. Flibirigit (talk) 03:16, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the diligent review, and sorry about the extra work. This is the typical translation from Germany, where sourcing is to books without specific pages. I looked at the things marked and dropped all but three as not vital for the article. I'll try to find something for those three, - people with more time are free to search for the others as well. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:42, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
Update: I added a bunch of refs. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:58, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

General: Article is new enough and long enough

Policy compliance:

Hook eligibility:

Image: Image is freely licensed, used in the article, and clear at 100px.
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Thank you for the work on this article to date. It looks promising and will pass DYK with some minor changes as noted below. Article was translated from the German Wikipedia page on June 7 and nominated with seven days. The talk page includes appropriate attribution to the German Wikipedia source page. The article mostly meets sourcing requirements, with only one citation needed tag to be addressed. Length of the article is adequate and it is neutral in tone. No plagiarism issues detected. All images used in the article are freely licensed on the Commons. The nominated image is clear at a low resolution and used in the article. The QPQ requirement is complete. I added a "who" tag to the financier Herzfeld. I hope there is a first name for him/her. I will visit the hook a bit later today after a lunch break. Cheers. • I agree with the comment by User:Narutolovehinata5 that ALT0 has too much information and that the names would not be recognizable to the average reader. I feel that ALT1 is more interesting because it is shorter. The wording "without major damage" is subjective and not mentioned in the article. It would be correct to say "hit by one bomb" or "the only working theatre building in Berlin in 1945" as both of those statements are verified in this source. Cheers! Progress: I found that the ref used most - Jaumann - is available online, digitalized and quoted here. I'd like to stick to the former, as all page numbers already in the article rely on it. I will need more time to check where the uncited detail is mentioned, ut am hopeful to find it. I'll word a new hook, without the premiere because I decided to eventually write the article about that play. Hoping for a bit more patience, - busy today --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:16, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
ALT2: ... that the Hebbel-Theater (pictured), designed by Oskar Kaufmann and opened in 1908, was the only theatre in Berlin operational in 1945? - Flibirigit, I don't know what else to say about Herzfeld. He gave money and died, postponing the project, - that's all the German Wikipedia has. No given name, no function, no life data. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:05, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
  • Approving ALT2. The article now meets all DYK criteria. ALT2 is interesting to a broad audience, properly mentioned and cited in the article, and verified by the source. Please note that since I can speak German, I have approved the hook with a green tick instead of a grey tick for AGF. I have removed the "who" tag according to the comments above. Cheers.
