Ignite (game engine)

[edit]

Created by Czar (talk). Self nominated at 23:46, 15 June 2013 (UTC).

  • Article new enough, long enough, fully referenced. Hook verified against online source. Good to go! Hawkeye7 (talk) 22:55, 23 June 2013 (UTC)
I have returned this one from the queue as the hook is too promotional - in fact it appears to be sourced to an AE press release. Gatoclass (talk) 18:55, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
Its supporting article is built partly from a press event and a press release (as product announcements tend to come). The mentioned part did not quote the press release. I've edited the hook to be less likely construed as promotional. czar · · 22:11, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
Objection appears to be misguided, as the fact was not sourced from an AE (sic) press release. New hook verified against two online sources. Hawkeye7 (talk) 22:22, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
Did you even bother to check the source? It is quoting from an EA press release, which the hook reproduced almost verbatim. And incidentally, you don't get to decide for me whether my concerns about an article have been met, that's not how things are done around here, you are supposed to consult with users who express concerns. In this instance, the new hook is an improvement but the phrase "become anxious toward the end of a match" doesn't make much sense and needs to be expressed with more clarity. In fact, I might look for an ALT myself as it will probably be the quickest way to resolve this. Gatoclass (talk) 08:25, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
As the reviewer, I do get to decide on whether an article meets the criteria. I don't have to consult; I am not the nominator. Hawkeye7 (talk) 09:55, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, but this isn't GA, there isn't a single reviewer here, promotions at DYK are generally done by consensus in accordance with policy - although the bar for what constitutes consensus is set higher here, because of DYK's mainpage exposure. Gatoclass (talk) 10:07, 25 June 2013 (UTC)

I have taken another look at the article and source, and it's going to be difficult to find a worthwhile hook that does not have a promotional dimension, but the least that can be done is to attribute the claims about the game, so in line with those concerns here's a couple of alts:

  • ALT1: *... that according to EA Sports, its Ignite game engine for next-gen consoles allows players to act more like real athletes in having to make snap judgements and brace for impacts?
    • Hook length okay, verified agsinst online source. Hawkeye7 (talk) 10:47, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
  • ALT2: ... that in addition to gameplay enhancements, EA Sports' new Ignite game engine reportedly features "thousands" of individually modelled 3D fans with their own unique behaviours? Gatoclass (talk) 09:57, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
    • This is covered not in the article. Hawkeye7 (talk) 10:47, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
  • ALT1 hook approved. Hawkeye7 (talk) 10:47, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
