J. P. Crawford[edit]

Improved to Good Article status by TheGracefulSlick (talk). Self-nominated at 22:10, 20 November 2017 (UTC).

  • @TheGracefulSlick: Do you think you could come up with a more accessible hook for non-baseball fans? I had to click through to one of the articles just to figure out what sport this referred to. It seems that the interesting-ness of the hook relies upon the reader knowing who Jimmy Rollins is, which I assume most people outside the U.S. don't. 97198 (talk) 10:59, 23 November 2017 (UTC)
  • 97198 it would be difficult, considering Crawford is only known as a baseball player. I considered this hook interesting because Rollins was the face of the Phillies franchise for about a decade and is a probable hall-of-famer; even casual fans know of J-Roll's career and that means Crawford, his replacement, has an extraordinarily high ceiling that I thought was interesting to sports fans. Crawford has not had a long career yet so the only other interesting thing I could think of is the fact he was drafted straight out of high school.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 02:59, 24 November 2017 (UTC)
GA, in time, long enough, sourced, inline hook citation checks out, neutral, no apparent copyvios, QPQ done. TheGracefulSlick & 97198, what about "... superseding Jimmy Rollins, the face of their franchise"? It would need to also be added to the article and cited, but would add context for non-baseball fans. --Usernameunique (talk) 05:39, 12 December 2017 (UTC) Correcting error and re-pinging: TheGracefulSlick & 97198 --Usernameunique (talk) 05:40, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
Usernameunique, while Rollins is recognized as their former franchise player, sources talking about Crawford do not describe him as such; he is called "MVP-caliber", "former MVP", and "their leader", however. If I used sources on Rollins, that would be WP:SYNTH. As a compromise, would my new hook, describing Rollins as a former MVP, help non-baseball fans recognized he was an important player?TheGracefulSlick (talk) 22:47, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
TheGracefulSlick, that's fine by me. Language about Rollins being an MVP just needs to be in the article. --Usernameunique (talk) 01:49, 13 December 2017 (UTC)
Usernameunique the text has been adjusted. Thank you for coming to the rescue of this review!TheGracefulSlick (talk) 03:23, 13 December 2017 (UTC)
TheGracefulSlick, happy to review it. The source doesn't back the MVP statement about Rollins however. Just need to add a source which says he won it. --Usernameunique (talk) 03:39, 13 December 2017 (UTC)
Usernameunique yes, my bad. I added the source.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 04:24, 13 December 2017 (UTC)
all set now. --Usernameunique (talk) 05:19, 13 December 2017 (UTC)
