John J. Horn[edit]

  • ... that in 1976, John J. Horn supported New Jersey's proposed Illegal Alien Employment Prohibition Act, saying that "illegal aliens holding jobs represent more than half of our total unemployed"? Source: see here "John J. Horn, the Acting Commissioner of the State Department of Labor and Industry. called today for support of the Illegal Alien Employment Prohibition Act.... The Newark office of the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service estimates that there are more than 300,000 illegal aliens in New Jersey and that 200,000 of them are holding jobs, the Commissioner said. 'If the services' figures are accurate, then the estimated number of illegal aliens holding jobs represent more than half of our total unemployed."
    • ALT1:... that John J. Horn supported New Jersey's proposed Illegal Alien Employment Prohibition Act, stating "illegal aliens holding jobs represent more than half of our total unemployed"?

  • The article is new enough (created 6 October, nominated 9 October) and long enough (5388 characters). It is neutrally worded, cited inline and free from copy-right violations. The hook is rather long to say the least (at 192 characters) but is below the 200 character limit. I have offered up a trimmed version as ALT (179 characters); what do you think Alansohn? The hook is interesting and cited inline in the article. I would prefer if the relevant sentence in the article is divided up (maybe into three sentences) as it is hard going with it being so long; however, this is not a requirement to pass DYK, just a friendly tip. QPQ has been completed. A hook about his alleged involvement with organised crime would have been more interesting but perhaps to controversial. As it is, this is good to go, Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 19:53, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
  • Gaia Octavia Agrippa, thanks for the tweaks to the article and your suggested AL1; both look good. Is there any obstacle to moving this nomination forward? Alansohn (talk) 19:53, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
  • I think I was waiting to see if you approved of the ALT hook. Its now up to the promoter to choose between them, as this is good to go. Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 21:06, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
