John Johnson (1807-1878)[edit]

Alexandra Palace
Alexandra Palace
  • ... that John Johnson was one of the only Victorian architects to have one of his buildings successfully moved to another site from its original location?

  • ALT1:... that English architect John Johnson, original designer of the Church of St. Luke in St Pancras, was asked to redesign the church after its successful relocation to Wanstead?

Article is new enough and long enough. Article is well referenced and neutral. Can we fix ref 6 to use the HE database as that is more authoritative than the mirror. Ref 10 similarly is probably not a reliable source. I think it is this one. Also it should read Hertford not Hertfordshire. Neither hook specifies the church in question (this one) and the Alt is rather complicated. They need to be reworded or what about an alt saying he designed the Alexandra Palace? There must be some good pictures of it. This source says he is easily confused with two other JJs of the same era. Have you checked that nothing attributed to him in this article is by one of his namesakes? No copy vios found. Philafrenzy (talk) 12:27, 26 January 2018 (UTC)

Went to leave a message on this user's page and found they have blocked themselves. Does anyone else want to take it on? It wouldn't take much to turn it into a decent picture hook. Philafrenzy (talk) 18:18, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
@Philafrenzy: yep, on it now. >SerialNumber54129...speculates 18:24, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
I regard Cassianto as a wiki friend, so I'd like to help as well. I'm sure he'd do the same for me the next time I'm in his position. Eric Corbett 19:17, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
@Philafrenzy: Right. I've fixed those refs; howzabout
Looks like you two have it covered, but if you need any assistance on Cass's link, let me know. Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 20:46, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
This would enable one of the delightful images we have of AP to be used too? ----->

Great, thanks, I will review the changes. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:09, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
The image needs to go to the article, and (pictured) be added to the hook. What do you think of simply
ALT3: ... that John Johnson designed the Alexandra Palace (pictured)? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:18, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
This version is by Philafrenzy:
ALT4: ... that John Johnson and Alfred Meeson designed the Alexandra Palace (pictured) in north London?
I understand that Johnson alone did the one pictured, so think ALT4 is misleading. If ALT3 comes with image, nothing else needs to be added because it looks impressive. Without image, some description would be needed but rather what it is than where it is. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:38, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
What you have termed Alt 4 is just your hook with the co-architect added for accuracy Gerda. He was the co-designer with Meeson - see here. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:47, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for looking at the source, while I believed the article. The article needs a change then. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:52, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
It was right in the body but not the lead. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:57, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
To be precise the article stated that the first version was joint, the second sole, based on a RIBA picture library link. Historic England say both were joint so I have revised the article accordingly as they are the stronger source. Philafrenzy (talk) 23:39, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
I will finish the review tomorrow. Philafrenzy (talk) 00:14, 27 January 2018 (UTC)
  • New reviewer needed. Since Philafrenzy has proffered ALT4 and made so many edits to the article, I don't believe they can continue reviewing it; indeed, given the extensive edits, I have added a DYKmake for them. The article itself has been moved, so I've made all the adjustments needed to this template (which should not be moved itself). Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:36, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
  • This article is new enough and long enough. The image is suitably licensed, the ALT4 hook facts are sourced inline, the article is neutral and I detected no policy issues. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 07:15, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
