R. Hari Kumar

[edit]
  • ... that R. Hari Kumar served as commissioning GO VIII of INS Ranvir and commissioning GO of INS Kuthar?
    • ALT1:... that R. Hari Kumar commanded the Coast Guard Ship C-01, the missile boat INS Nishank, the Rajput-class destroyer destroyer INS Ranvir, the Kora class missile corvette INS Kora and the Centaur class aircraft carrier INS Viraat?

Moved to mainspace by Nivas10798 (talk). Self-nominated at 07:02, 12 December 2018 (UTC).

  • One issue with the article is where it says he went to the US Naval College in 1966, when he would have been four years old. What year is this supposed to be, since there isn't a reference? Also, the hooks are not only super boring but overuse specialist terms, so are not interesting to a wide audience. Kumar's college career seems to be most widely interesting stuff, so how about:

@Kingsif: Thanks for correcting the year 1966. It was 1996 and I made the mistake. Your suggestions for DYK are really interesting. Can you please help me in renominating those statements for DYK? Thanks in advance. Nivas10798 (talk) 16:22, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
@Nivas10798: This is how you nominate them, a review can be like a discussion. You pick which one you prefer (I like number 3) and that will get approved. Kingsif (talk) 16:39, 19 December 2018 (UTC)
@Kingsif: I like number 3 (... that R. Hari kumar attended the US Naval War College while already serving in the Indian Navy?). Thanks for the help. Nivas10798 (talk) 08:46, 20 December 2018 (UTC)
With the date now corrected, approve ALT3: ... that R. Hari Kumar attended the US Naval War College while already serving in the Indian Navy? Kingsif (talk) 19:24, 20 December 2018 (UTC)
  • @Kingsif: Per Rule H2,, you cannot approve your own hook. Could another reviewer take a look at this? Yoninah (talk) 22:02, 3 January 2019 (UTC)
  • References OK, neutral in tone, each paragraph is cited by reliable sources, long enough, no copyvio or close paraphrasing. Nominated withing the 7 days of creation, and ALT3 is intresting. GTG, KCVelaga (talk) 11:03, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
  • Hi, I came by to promote this, but ALT3 is totally misleading. He didn't attend the college, he attended a course at the college. The source lists several courses that he took. Yoninah (talk) 00:48, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
@Yoninah: Can you change the word courses to course as the source says that he attended a naval staff course in that college? Thank you! Nivas10798 (talk) 05:40, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
@Yoninah: I'm good with ALT4, tweaked it a bit for more clarity. KCVelaga (talk) 06:59, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but the grammar, and the referencing in this article are not quite up to the mark. The article could use a copy-edit; it also needs references in the awards section. A lot of the phrasing is also too close to the sources: "Kumar was born on 12 April 1962 in Trivandrum, Kerala. He completed his schooling from Mannam Memorial Residential High School. Before joining the National Defence Academy (NDA) in January 1979, he completed his pre-degree course at Government Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram." is far too close to "Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar was born on 12 April 1962 at Trivandrum. The Admiral Completed his Scholling from Mannom Memorial Residential High School and Degree Course at Govement Arts Collage, Trivandrum prior joining the National Defence Academy in January 1979." I suspect the only reason it wasn't flagged by Earwig's tool was the number of grammatical errors in the original. Vanamonde (Talk) 20:35, 30 January 2019 (UTC)
Also noting that it's received quite a lot of edits recently, leaving the article unstable. Kingsif (talk) 21:17, 30 January 2019 (UTC)
@Vanamonde93: How about putting up a request at WP:GOCE/R, and would this wait till someone from the project does c/e. It may take another couple weeks before if we place the request in a short while. KCVelaga (talk) 17:01, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
I'm fine with you filing such a request and waiting for the outcome; it's a short article, and so I wouldn't expect any great delay. The copyright and verifiability issues are better addressed before that, though, so copyeditors have a clean version to work with. Vanamonde (Talk) 17:05, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
Placed the request, also removed the awards section which had a lot of un-referenced material (per the discussion on talk page). KCVelaga (talk) 14:07, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
@Vanamonde93: C/e done. Please check. KCVelaga (talk) 05:33, 21 February 2019 (UTC)
My concerns have been addressed, restoring tick per previous review. Vanamonde (Talk) 06:43, 21 February 2019 (UTC)
