Sabine Hyland[edit]

  • ... that Sabine Hyland discovered that the Inca may have written phonetic information in knotted cords called khipus?

Created by Eldr-fire (talk). Self-nominated at 09:40, 4 March 2019 (UTC).

  • The article is new and long enough. It is neutral and appears to be free from copyright/plagiarism issues. The hook is short, interesting and supported by references. Author has reviewed another DYK and the image in the article is free to use. Couple of queries and then I'll be happy to tick this as ready:
    • I would ask that "Inca" and "quipus" be wikilinked in the hook
    • They're called "Quipus" in the hook, but "Khipus" in the article. I would prefer if it were consistent so it doesn't confuse readers.
Thanks, DelUsion23 (talk) 16:00, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for your feedback - I used "khipu" in the article because that is what most of the sources use, but put "quipu" in the hook because that is what the Wikipedia article is called. (Most academic sources these days use "khipu" because it is the indigenous spelling, but the Wikipedia article still uses the Spanish "quipu" which you will also find in print.) Would you rather the hook be changed to "khipu" to match the article even though it will link to a Wikipedia page called "quipu"? I'd be happy with that change. • Note: The QPQ that this nominator submitted is inadequate. I suggest he rereads the DYK Reviewing Guide before his next review. In the meantime, no QPQ is needed for this nomination because the nominator has less than 5 DYK credits. Yoninah (talk) 21:31, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
I think that "khipu" would be better in the hook as then when a reader clicks on the main article they will be met by the same name. If they click on the "Khipu" link they'll see that the word "Quipu" is also used by some. Cheers, DelUsion23 (talk) 17:28, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
The word "quipu" cannot be used in the hook because the hook fact would then not appear in the article as required by DYK, since "quipu" appears nowhere in the article. I have edited the hook accordingly to read "khipus", and wikilinked it as requested, because it's an unknown term. BlueMoonset (talk) 20:54, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for updating the hook. Good to go as far as I can see. DelUsion23 (talk) 17:21, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
