Sallie Shearer

Sallie Shearer (left) in her brothel
  • ... that Sallie Shearer's brothel (pictured) in Reading, Pennsylvania, was "magnificently furnished" with fine velvet carpets and beautiful mirrors?
    • ALT1:... that during her career as a brothel-owner in Reading, Pennsylvania, Sallie Shearer (pictured) was stolen from, extorted, arrested, fined, jailed and raided?

  • Article is new enough, long enough, no copyvios and the hooks are sourced (have to AGF for paper sources). Image is suitable and public domain. The hook is okay, I'm just wondering if we can have something with a bit more "pazazz" in it. Paging Captain Humour..... Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:50, 18 January 2020 (UTC)
  • First let us look to Genesis 4:9 for inspiration: And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is thy brothel? And he said, I know not: Am I my brothel's keeper? Now then... I don't see much potential here in the funny department; seems to me the pictures are the main interest:
ALT2 ... that Sallie Shearer's 19th-century brothel (pictured) was the subject of a cache of secret photographs recently discovered in California?

  • Thanks but we have just run one like that for Goldman. How about:
ALT3 ... that Sallie Shearer's (pictured) ranche was a nuisance to her neighbors?
ALT4 ... that Sallie Shearer (pictured) was arrested for running a disorderly house following a midnight raid on her ranche?
ALT5 ... that Sallie Shearer (pictured) was prosecuted for running a disorderly house after she refused to pay a bribe?
ALT6 ... that in the 1880s, Sallie Shearer (pictured) ran a disorderly ranche in Reading, Pennsylvania?

Well of those I'd definitely go with the bribe, A5. EEng 19:56, 18 January 2020 (UTC)
  • Promoting the original hook as being more relevant to the image. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 07:34, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
