- ... that the facial markings in this photo of Māori chief Tuterei Karewa (pictured) may have been enhanced by the photographer using black paint?
- ALT1:... that Tuterei Karewa was described by a historian as a "handsomely tattooed old Māori warrior?"

New, long enough, well-referenced with no obvious copyright/close paraphrase issues that I could see, and the image is PD. I am only a little hesitant about the hooks, because they don't come across as super-catchy, but I couldn't come up with anything catchier personally - of the two offered, I think the first one is clearly superior to the ALT1, and it's the one I'd suggest going with.
